In addition this information can be found on our Academy website atwww.nshacademy.org.uk Academy Start Dates: To ensure a smooth start to the Academy 1 – 3 September 2010 will be dedicated to staff training and preparation. Climate for Learning: Learning is the core purpose of the Academy. We aim to create a healthy, stimulating and progressive environment in which every learner is respected and encouraged to achieve their maximum potential. At North Shore Academy we believe that a safe environment of mutual respect and co-‐operation results in the most effective climate for learning and teaching. The fundamental principle underpinning our climate for learning is unconditional respect. This combined with rights, responsibilities and routines will produce good behaviour conducive to good learning. Our behaviour policy will be made available to all parents and students in the new term and we welcome your comments and views. The Academy’s Climate for Learning is structured around our Academy language for learning in the form of the 4R’s: • Responsibility • Resourcefulness • Resilience • Relationships These will underpin our common learning language and behaviours in the Academy. The 4 R’s will be central to our tutoring system: drive tutor/student learning conversations and be regularly addressed in Learning Family assemblies and tutorial time. Our displays and points system will reinforce and reward students exhibiting and practising behaviours in the 4R’s e.g. punctual, smart, prepared, respectful, not giving up at the first hurdle, helping others etc. We hope this information clarifies key points for the start of the new term and look forward with excitement to greeting our new students in September. Yours faithfully
