Use remaining fabric from block construction For (12) Churn Dash Setting Blocks Cut (12) 2-1/2” squares Cut (48) 1-1/4”x2-1/2” rectangles, Cut (4) for each block Cut (24) 2-3/8” squares, cut once diagonally, Cut (2) for each block For Piano Key Border Cut (4) 2-1/2” squares Cut (160) 1-1/2”x2-1/2” rectangles
Setting Blocks & Inner Border 1-1/2 yards
For (12) Churn Dash Blocks Cut (3) 1-1/4” strips into (48) 1-1/4”x2-1/2” rectangles Cut (1) 2-3/8” strip into Cut (24) 2-3/8” squares, cut once diagonally, Cut (2) for each block For Sashing & Setting Blocks Cut (14) 1-1/2” strips into (80) 1-1/2”x5-1/2” rectangles (49) 1-1/2” squares Cut (1) 8-3/8” strips into (4) 8-3/8” squares, cut twice diagonally Cut (1) 4-1/2” strip into (2) 4-1/2” squares, cut once diagonally For Inner Border Cut (2) 1-1/2” strips Cut (2) 1-1/4” strips

All seams are 1/4”. Pressing directions are indicated. Have A Little Faith Baby quilt is set on point with Churn Dash setting units and a Piano Key outer border. Begin by laying your blocks out on point. Rearrange them so that color and value are evenly distributed throughout the quilt top. Once you’ve determined the placement of each block, sort through your scraps to construct the Churn Dash setting blocks. Choose fabrics in color and value that will give the quilt a harmonious look.

Have A Little Faith: Baby 41”x49” All seams are 1/4”. Pressing directions are indicated. Churn Dash Instructions for one block — repeat instructions for (12) total blocks 1. Stitch (4) Background and (4) Colored rectangles together as shown. Press seams open. Make (4) units. The unfinished unit should measure 2”x2-1/2”. 2. Construct half-square units by stitching 23/8” Colored and Background half-squares together diagonally, Press seams toward the Colored half-squares. Make (4) units. The unfinished unit should measure 2” square. 3. Stitch (2) units from Step 1 to each side of the Colored center square. Press seams to the outside. The unfinished unit should measure 2-1/2”x5-1/2” 4. Stitch (2) units from Step 2 to each side of the remaining units from Step 1. Press to the inside. The unfinished unit should measure 2”x5-1/2”. 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 to complete (12) total blocks. 6. Return to your block layout and place Churn Dash blocks into the layout, moving blocks around until you are happy with color and value distribution. Sashing and Setting Units 1. Stitch 5-1/2” Sashing Units to the sides of each block as shown in the image on the next page. Press toward the Sashing Units. Construct (8) rows. 2. Stitch quarter-square Setting Units to the ends of each block rows as shown in the image on the next page. Press toward the Sashing Units. 3. Stitch 1-1/2” Cornerstones between Sashing Units as shown on the image on the next page. Press toward the Sashing Units. Construct (9) rows.

Have A Little Faith: Baby 41”x49” All seams are 1/4”. Pressing directions are indicated. Sashing and Setting Units, continued 4. Alternate Block rows and Sashing rows. Stitch together. Use a ruler to trim cornerstones and square up the quilt top.
Quarter-Square Units
5. Press toward the Sashing rows. Finish the quilt top by stitching half-square sashing triangles on each corner. Press toward the Sashing rows. Borders 1. Measure length of quilt top (should measure approximately 43”). Cut (2) 1-1/2” Inner Border strips to length. Stitch to the sides. Press to the outside. 2. Measure width of the quilt top (should measure approximately 36-1/2”). Cut (2) 1-1/4” Inner Border strips to length. Stitch to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press to the outside.
Half-Square Unit
3. Stitch (44) Piano Key units together. Press seams open. Make (2) borders and stitch to the sides of the quilt top. Press to the inside. Note, you may need to add or subtract Piano Key units, depending on the measurement of your quilt top. 4. Stitch (36) Piano Key units together. Press seams open. Stitch 2-1/2” Cornerstone squares to each side. Press toward the Cornerstones. Make (2) borders and stitch to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press to the inside. Note, you may need to add or subtract Piano Key units, depending on the measurement of your quilt top. Finishing the Quilt 1. Layer quilt top, batting and backing. Quilt as desired. 2. Stitch binding strips together. Bind the quilt.

Setting Block: Churn Dash I chose the .Churn Dash block for the setting units of Have A Little Faith: Baby Quilt. The Churn Dash has been called many things: Monkey Wrench, Old Mill Design, Hens and Chickens, Double T, Shoo Fly, Sherman’s March, Hole-In-The-Barn-Door, Puss-In -The-Corner, Lincoln’s Platform, Indian Hammer, Quail’s Nest, Broken Plate, Joan’s Doll Quilt, Fisherman’s Reel, Picture Frame, Ludlow’s Favorite, and (my favorite) Love Knot. Just like the Churn Dash Block, our faith may look and feel different for every person. We cannot measure our faith in comparison to others. God knows our hearts and the measure of our unique faith.
