Seismic Geophysics for Rapid Geotechnical Screening of Existing and New Buildings Presented by Cam Wylie When it's too important to guess, seismic geophysics can be quickly deployed with little site disturbance to gain valuable geotechnical information for effective asset management. Seismic assessment of existing buildings and built assets needs to be based on a reasonable understanding of geotechnical site conditions to assess both vulnerability and realistic remedial solutions. Seismic based geophysics can provide an indication of foundation consistancy, strength, depth to "hard", liquefaction potential, deformation modulus and site specific subsoil classification. Seismic geophysics are non-intrusive with very low impact to be rapidly deployed in dense urban areas, building basements, tank farms, transmission infrastructure or open area sites. In fact almost anywhere not affected by background "noise". RDCL provides specialist insitu geotechnical testing with experience on a range of projects in NZ and overseas. Cam and his team will present a summary of the methods, limitations and experience on projects and what they see going forward."

Cam Wylie is RDCL's Managing Director and company founder, and maintains a high Building level of Room 3.404, Engineering direct involvement in project work in his role as Principal Geotechnical Engineer. University of Auckland Cam’s project experience includes open pit and underground mines, mine waste storage facilities, dams, roads, pipelines, foundations and land developments. He has worked in a wide range of geotechnical conditions including hard and soft rock, and tropical, erosive, swelling clay, and volcaniclastic soils, and steep, landslide-prone terrain. He has particular construction experience in tropical, high rainfall conditions. Cam is an Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand (MIPENZ) Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) practising in Geotechnical engineering, and an Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) Certified Professional (CP) in Mine Geotechnics. He is a member of a wide range of professional organisations reflecting his interest across the business and sits on the board of Straterra representing the Technical Services and Research Sector Group. He is also active in ACENZ as an awards judge.
