Heating & cooling tips Optimise heating Set the thermostat to 20°C when the building is occupied and 15°C when it is not.
Schedule efficiently Try to schedule meetings, events, or work in the same heating and cooling zones. You can then turn off or turn down heating and cooling in zones not actively being used.
Optimise cooling Cool your building to no more than 26°C when it’s occupied and turn it off completely when it’s not (e.g. at night).
Cool with blinds When cooling, close any blinds you can during the day to block solar heating.
Retain the heat

When heating, close curtains, shades, and blinds at night to retain heat.
Ceiling fans can reduce energy use during both heating and cooling seasons.
Close the windows Keep exterior windows and doors closed when heating or cooling.

Don’t block vents
Don’t heat or cool unused areas. Close the doors and vents to these areas.
Keep furniture from blocking registers and vents.
Fix weather stripping Inspect and repair worn weather stripping on all doors and windows.
Reduce heat load Electronics and lighting give off heat, increasing the load on the cooling system. Turn them off when they are not actively being used.

Spot heat Don’t over-heat your entire facility. Use supplemental heating for specific areas that need more heating.
