The „how‟ of battle hinges on weapons and the habits they require of the men who use them. • Now we‟re getting to where you come in! – Long before the fantastic integrated software solutions that you provide were created the construction battle was waged and waged successfully (by some!) – The habits I have as a contractor match the tools I am used to using. – You can provide me with a new weapon, and I may even think I am savvy enough to comprehend its awesome possibilities • But until I learn new habits I will never fully utilize this weapon. So how can you help me? • Don‟t focus on the fantastic new (to me) weapon that you can provide me…focus on helping me to acquire the new habits required to fully utilize the weapon. • This is a much bigger & long-term challenge for you, and requires a commitment of much greater depth. • Please, please do not focus on features of the software…teach me how to manage my company better by changing my habits. – Yes, your software can give me much more data, in many forms…you must answer the „so what?‟ question… – What do I do with this data? – How do I make more money & gain more time and peace of mind…you must show me, not tell me. – Features don‟t make me more money, reducing overhead doesn‟t help a whole lot…helping me to increase field labor productivity is what helps me the most.
