Hereford Youth Football 2015 Survey Report
Q1 – Which team did your child play for last season?
Q2 – How would you rate your family’s overall experience with the Hereford Youth Football Program?
We’re working on it! Our new board has lots of plans in place to make Hereford Youth Football better for all of our kids. Please consider volunteering for our fundraising or events committees and do your part to help us build this community!
Q3 – How would you rate your child’s coaches?
We are very happy to report that most people rated their child’s coaches as excellent. We will continue to improve our coaching staff by requiring coaches to apply and interview in front of an independent panel before being chosen. All coaches must be members of USA Football, receive Heads Up Coaching Certification, and remain PCA certified. This year, coaches will also be asked to attend monthly meetings where they can share ideas and receive continuing education from regular presenters.
Q4 – How would you rate the uniforms?
The board considered many factors and narrowed it down to the following options:
Provide the same UA screenprinted jerseys as last year, reuse the rental pants
Provide the same UA jerseys in Tackle Twill style, reuse the rental pants from past seasons
Provide Tackle Twill jerseys in the same style as last year, reuse our rental pants
Provide all new Tackle Twill jerseys and rental pants for each player **Tackle Twill = sewn on names and numbers**
The board agreed with your comments that our old uniforms needed to be replaced. For the 2015 season, we will purchase new jerseys for all players. These will all be “Tackle Twill” style with sewn on numbers and names. This is the same vendor (AllPro) who provides uniforms for most of the UCYFL so we are confident in the quality of the product. We will also be providing new rental pants this year at the program’s expense. In the future, players will be required to purchase their own pants, but since it was communicated that pants would be included this year, we feel like the right thing to do is to provide them. These pants will cost an additional $35 per player that we had not budgeted for, but we are confident that we can recoup that money through the fundraisers that we are planning on this year (more below.) Our plan is to sell them next season at a discount, or provide the opportunity for players to purchase new ones. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to purchase socks for every child this year but hope to be able to include it as part of the registration package in the future. We will be offering some AWESOME socks in our online store (opening soon!) Our uniforms are exciting for the kids and show pride in our program. We are committed to improving this aspect of our program. All uniforms take 8-12 weeks to ship, which is why we have to hold registration so early. We plan to hold 2 uniform fitting nights at the end of April. Please make sure you attend so we can order the right size for your child! Dates will be announced soon.
Q5 – How would you rate the rental equipment? (helmet, shoulder pads)
We understand your concerns that our equipment is not being maintained. We want everyone to know that every single Hereford Football helmet has been sent out this year for reconditioning, recertification, or replacement at an expense of over $9500 (80% of our funds.) Safety is of the utmost importance to our program. To read more about the reconditioning process, visit our FAQ’s page. As we fundraise, we’d like to be able to replace our older shoulder pads. This is a huge expense and will have to wait until the budget allows.
Q6 – How would you rate the program’s facilities?
We agree with many of you that the HMS field needs work! We encourage you to take it up with the Hereford Rec office and BCPS. School facilities are not under our jurisdiction. We plan to have a food truck at as many practices as possible to offer an opportunity for everyone to grab a bite to eat during the week! We also plan to have food available at games. The HHS snack bar, scoreboard, and announcers’ booth are maintained by the Hereford High School Sports Boosters. We would love to have access to these assets, but that has not been granted. Thankfully, funds from raffles and last year’s sponsors allowed us to purchase our own. We would love to have full time announcers at every game. To volunteer, contact Steve Duvall at
[email protected] Q7 – Did your child have fun last year?
We’re glad to hear that everyone had some level of fun – that’s what it’s all about! It was awesome to hear how your child’s coaches went above and beyond to make things special for their teams. We’re here for the kids!
Q8 – Would you refer a friend to play Hereford Youth Football?
Many people expressed concern over being required to try out for an “A” or a “B” team if their age level gets enough players. To be very clear - NO CHILD WILL BE FORCED TO PLAY ON ANY TEAM. If there are enough children registered at any age group to make multiple teams, ALL COACHES will be involved in the decision making process. However – each team must field enough players for a full team and players may be asked to consider moving from one team to another to even out the numbers. Once the final rosters are set, no player can move
to a new team. We want our players to continue to develop their mentorship relationships with their coaches, and for teams to develop together. Additionally, people at the 11U (12U for 2015) level expressed concern that their teams were placed in the wrong division last season. This year, both 12U teams will be moved down a division in the UCYFL to ensure an equal (and safe) playing field.
