Property A unique detached bungalow in a lovely rural setting occupying a large plot of approximately 0.75 of an acre. The property was built for the present owners who have lived there since it was built in 1986. It has high ceilings, attractive Gothic style windows and many individual features. The versatile accommodation comprises an entrance hall, master bedroom with fitted wardrobes and en-suite bathroom, there are three further double bedrooms, a family bathroom and cloakroom. There is a light and airy ‘L’ shaped lounge/dining room with vaulted ceiling leading to a large kitchen/diner which is the hub of the home. Externally the well-maintained grounds extend to approximately 0.75 of an acre with lawns, flower and shrub borders, mature trees and hedging. There is extensive parking for cars, a large detached garage, workshop and a brick-built studio/home office that could be suitable for a variety of uses. Located close to Maypole Airfield, Hoath is a charming rural village with outstanding farmland and countryside ideal for rambling and riding. The village has a church, a very popular public house, a village hall and a school. The seaside town of Herne Bay is approximately 3 miles away with the Cathedral City of Canterbury being approximately 7 miles away where you will find a wide variety of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as numerous cultural and recreational facilities. Canterbury also has a number of highly regarded schools in both the public and private sectors. There is also a high-speed rail service into London St. Pancras.

Our Time Here There is a small airfield to the north of the plot from which I used to fly, and we first spotted the property from the air over 30 years ago. The cottage has an interesting history and at one time the actress Stephanie Turner (Juliet Bravo) and her husband lived there. Unfortunately, it had fallen into disrepair and was derelict when we bought it. Being a conservation property built in 1810, we demolished all but the front wall and the house is now an extension of that. The location has been ideal for us, being close to the airfield for flying, and also not too far from our restaurant in Canterbury. It’s lovely and quiet here yet close to Canterbury for all shopping, schools and local amenities, just a 15-20 minute drive with very little traffic here. It’s a country location within easy reach of the city and the coast. Our favourite feature of the property is probably the open plan reception area and a huge yet comfortable sitting room, which benefits from three aspects looking out over the greenery that surrounds us. The property has plenty of parking space, a big driveway, a 4 car garage, a separate studio and all set in nearly an acre of land. We’re going to miss everything about this property, particularly the sunrises and sunsets and the wildlife; regular visitors have included the family of hares, mischievous squirrels, magpies and a green woodpecker family, with the occasional visit from a male pheasant and his ‘wife’ , We are now downsizing and relocating to be closer to our son. We have thoroughly enjoyed living here and will look back with fond memories.
