HIGHLAND BASEBALL YOUTH SKILLS CAMP - 2016 The Recreation Association of Highland (RAH), in conjunction with the Highland High School Baseball Teams and Coaches, will conduct a Spring Training Skills Camp at Pinnacle Sports on Rt. 18. Skills camps will be broken down into 2 divisions/ age groups: VETERANS – (ages 9 to 12) will have pitching as part of their skills rotation and ROOKIES – (ages 4 to 8). These ages are as of their “Baseball Birthday” as of April 30th, 2016. Proceeds will go to benefit the High School BASEBALL TEAM and field improvements for RAH. What/When: February 20th – Pinnacle Sports – Indoor Soccer Fields and batting cages VETERANS – 8am to 9:45 at Pinnacle Sports on Rt. 18 in Medina / this is available to all kids playing Minors through “G-League” ROOKIES – 9:15 to 10:45 at Pinnacle Sports on Rt. 18 in Medina / this is available for all kids playing T-Ball through Coach Pitch February 27th – Pinnacle Sports – Indoor BASEBALL FIELD and Batting Cages VETERANS – 8am to 9:45 ROOKIES – 8:45 to 10:00 Why: To provide the proper fundamental skills of the game and to prepare players of any level for the upcoming outdoor season. In lieu of some of the more expensive “spring training” options out there, we wanted to provide Highland children the option of fundamental training at a more reasonable cost. Again, Proceeds will be used to benefit the field the Highland Hornets High School Baseball Team and also be used by RAH for field improvements/maintenance. Cost:
FEE is $60 total for both sessions. To attend 1 session, cost will be $50 per session (registration in person/ day of camp by cash or check made payable to RAH)
Grouping overview: ROOKIES: (ages 4-8) This camp will be based on the basic fundamentals skills of the game. Each week we will break the camp into stations that will include: 1. Hitting-We will be working on the basics of swinging the bat. Proper stance, grip on the bat, how to use the lower body in the swing, and how to use your hands. 2. Throwing-Proper grip, arm angle, and how to use your lower body. 3. Fielding-Proper technique on how to field fly balls and ground balls. Footwork and how to use your glove. 4. Base running-The basics of running the bases. VETERANS:
(ages 9 to 12) **these players are “kid pitch” level and above
With the older group we will cover all of the above at a more advanced level; including “Situational Play”. We will add a pitching/catching station each week. 1. Hitting-How to hit the ball the other way. Bunting technique. Hitting approach (have a plan in the box) 2. Throwing-How to warm up your arm. 3. Fielding-Advanced drills on fielding the ball. Separate stations for infield and outfield. 4. Base running-Lead offs, footwork, and how to run the bases. 5. Pitching – the basics of pitching grip, stance, setup, and follow through
