[email protected] Highlighted Art Pieces At MoZaic Columns Columns, which serve as a grand entrance to the plaza from the north, were from the original 1925 Federal Reserve Bank in Downtown Minneapolis designed by famed architect, Cass Gilbert. The building was fully renovated in the 1970s and the columns removed at that time to a yard in Delano. They were intended to be repurposed as aggregate, until rescued by MoZaic. In the spring, they will be capped each with a 6’ Bronze sculpture, created by Heidi Hoy. Colossus II Colossus II, by James Tyler. The Artist’s process involved sculpting the 10’ tall Colussus out of clay, then cutting it into small brick like pieces, which he then fired individually at different temperatures to get the color variation you now see. The bricks were then reassembled on site by the New York artist. MoZaic Art Park Throughout the project, the MoZaic Art Park logo is incorporated into architectural details and signage. The logo, designed by Uptown-based design firm mono, reflects the organic feeling of the plaza. This six-story tall aluminum screen utilized elements of the MoZaic Art Park logo as well as the rectilinear forms in the building facade to add visual interest and screening to the parking ramp. The screen was designed by Jack Boarman and Mark Harris of BKV Group, the building’s architect.
The Serpent The Serpent was designed and produced by Doug Friend from Edwards Manufacturing. Made out of steel, cut and formed then triple powder coated, it serves as the visual connection through the plaza, guiding visitors from the parking facility visually to the office entrance. The Serpent will have a custom lit water feature as its backdrop, designed and constructed by Greg Stoks and PJ Brandt of Commercial Aquatics.
