HOLIDAY CAMP

INFORMATION PACKAGE Dear Parents/Guardians, On behalf of all the instructors and the Queen’s University Recreation Department, I would like to welcome you and your child to the Q-Camp program. The camp promises to be filled from start to finish with lots of fun, and of course, lots of activity. We hope your child will enjoy the activities we have planned. We have an excellent group of experienced and enthusiastic instructors leading the program, with several Queen’s University students and returning familiar faces from last year’s summer staff. All instructors/volunteers have participated in an extensive pre-camp training program. We are always trying to make our programs better and are constantly trying a variety of new ideas, so would invite any positive comments and/or suggestions. We have a canteen card that you can preload to avoid sending cash with your child, to help the ease of lunch ordering. Please call customer service to preload a card 613 533 6000 x 74715. Please note the daily times for Q-Camp is now 9 – 4pm. 1.

CAMPER DROP-OFF IN THE MORNINGS All participants must be dropped off at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) between 8:45 – 9:00AM. Please walk your child into the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) from the main entrance off of Earl St. When entering the ARC, walk past the Customer Service Desk, and continue all the way to the end of the hallway. Look for the name of the camp you have signed up for. Proceed to the sign-in table where you will meet your child’s counsellors. ALL CHILDREN MUST BE SIGNED IN. PHOTO ID REQUIRED/MANDATORY. Please make sure that you have filled out who can sign your child in and out on the registration form online.

ABSENT CAMPERS AND SPECIAL SITUATIONS If your child is going to be absent, arriving late or departing early, we would like to be informed. Please let us know in advance or call the ARC in the morning. Our phone lines are open at 6:00am and you can reach the customer service desk at 613 533-6000 x 74717 or x 74715.

5.

CANTEEN SERVICES You may bring your own lunch or you can purchase from the full canteen menu. All other items can be purchased at the canteen on a daily basis. Try our new preloaded canteen card. Call customer service 613 533 6000 x 74715 to set up before camp begins. Please bring snacks as we will be breaking throughout the day.

6.

FOOD ALLERGIES We are encouraging all parents and campers to limit the use of peanuts and peanut butter IF AT ALL POSSIBLE in your lunches. As you are aware, severe peanut allergies are among us and we are trying to do the best that we can to control the amount of peanut products in the building. NOTE: We are open to the public so cannot ensure a totally nut-free space.

7.

POOL INFORMATION In the pool we will be using the pool change rooms. We provide towels so you just need a bathing suit and campers who are 6 years old and older are allowed to swim. See new Pool Admissions Standards. Please check the box online if your child needs to wear a lifejacket. If your child cannot pass the regulated swim test (two widths of the pool), and is not tall enough to stand in the shallow end, a lifejacket must be worn. If your child wants to swim in the deep end, they also must pass the swim test.

8.

MEDICATIONS/EPIPENS/INHALERS We are not responsible for administering your child’s medication. If your child does require medication, the parent/guardian will be required to administer it at camp. The camper is responsible for carrying his/her EpiPen or inhaler with him/her at all times. The camper will show the counselor where it is carried. The use of a fanny pack has proven the most successful way to do this. In the event of an emergency, the camp counselors will administer the EpiPen. Please fill out the permission form and bring it with you on the first day of camp.

9.

ODDS AND ENDS A friendly reminder that daily written notification is required to excuse your child from the camp. The campers are in our care from the time they arrive until they are signed out and picked up at the end of each day. All requests to leave camp (including meeting a parent for lunch) will be denied unless pre-arranged directly each day between yourself and the camp office. It is recommended that participants carry only necessities to camp each day and clearly label any equipment brought to camp. We will be using the small team rooms to lock up bags, etc., two per groups (gender specific), and they will be locked when not in use.

10.

FEEDBACK WELCOME We encourage your feedback throughout the program. Please direct your comments to: Lisa Eyles, Coordinator Camps and Community Outreach [email protected], 613 533-6000 x 77686. Yours in sport and fun,
