23880 Z - White Scroll • Cut (5) 2" x WOF strips; recut into (8) 2" x 9½" strips and (8) 2" x 12½" strips. • Cut (2) 4¼" x WOF strips; recut into (16) 4¼" squares. Cut each square twice diagonally to make 64 triangles.

23879 K - Medium Gray Damask • Cut (3) 1⅛ " x WOF strips; recut into (12) 1⅛" x 10½" strips. • Cut (2) 3⅝" x WOF strips; recut into (16) 3⅝" squares. Cut each square in half diagonally to make 32 triangles.
1. Fold and press the 1" x 9½" red strips in half along length with wrong sides together. 2. Place a folded strip on opposite sides of each panel square with raw edges of strips aligned with raw edges of the square and fold toward the center of the square. Pin to hold. Repeat with folded strips on the top and bottom of each square. Machine-baste ⅛" from outer edge all around to hold strips on top of squares.

Holiday Elegance 3. Sew the 2" x 9½" white strips to opposite sides of the panel squares. Press seams toward the strips, leaving the folded red strips flat on top of the panel squares. Stitch the 2" x 12½" white strips to the top and bottom to complete (4) 12½" x 12½" block centers. Press seams toward the strips. Note: The folded red strips are decorative flange strips to frame the motifs in the panel squares.

6. Stitch a pieced triangle strip to the long edge of each gray and red pieced triangle to complete 12 gray and 4 red corner triangles. Press seams toward the pieced triangles.
Gray Corner Triangle Make 12 Block Center — Make 4 4. Arrange and join 4 white triangles with 3 light gray triangles to make a pieced triangle strip. Press seams toward the light gray triangles, being careful not to stretch the strip. Repeat to make 16 pieced triangle strips total.
Red Corner Triangle Make 4 7. Sew a gray corner triangle to opposite sides of each block center. Press seams toward the block centers. Stitch a red corner triangle to the top of each block center and a gray corner triangle to the bottom to complete (4) 17½" x 17½" Elegance blocks. Press seams toward the block centers.
Pieced Triangle Strip — Make 16 5. Sew a medium gray triangle to 2 adjacent sides of a cream square. Press seams toward the triangles. Center and stitch a 1⅛" x 10½" medium gray strip to the long gray edge of the pieced triangle. Press seam toward the strip. Trim the strip ends even with the edges of the pieced triangle. Repeat to make 12 gray pieced triangles. Repeat using 1⅛" x 10½" red strips to make 4 red pieced triangles.

Holiday Elegance Topper/Tree Skirt Assembly Refer to the exploded topper/tree skirt diagram as needed throughout the following steps. 1. Join 2 blocks to make a row, matching the ends of the red strips in the top corner triangles. Press seam to 1 side. Repeat to make a second row. 2. Join the rows to complete the 34½" x 34½" pieced center. Press seam to 1 side. 3. Sew the 1½" x 34½" cream scroll strips to opposite sides of the pieced center and the 1½" x 36½" strips to the remaining sides. Press seams toward the strips. 4. Stitch the 1" x 36½" red damask strips to opposite sides of the pieced center and the 1" x 37½" strips to the remaining sides. Press seams toward the strips. 5. Sew the 4½" x 37½" gray holiday print strips to opposite sides of the pieced center. Press seams toward the strips. 6. Sew the (3) 4½" x WOF gray holiday print strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (2) 45½" strips. Stitch the strips to the remaining sides of the pieced center to complete the top. Press seams toward the strips. 7. Remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a ½" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the side edges to make a 53" x 53" backing piece. 8. Layer the top with the backing and a 53" x 53" piece of batting. Pin or baste to hold. Quilt as desired. Trim batting and backing even with the top. 9. For a topper, bind the edges using your favorite method and the 5 red damask binding strips. 10. For a tree skirt, cut a 5"–6" circle in the center. Cut a slit from the center circle to the center of 1 side, cutting along the seam between 2 blocks. Bind the outer edges, along the slit edges and around the center circle using your favorite method and the red damask bias binding strips.
