CLASSROOM NEWS page 2 Mrs. Hernnandez Miss Gina and I are excited for our first full-day week of Kindergarten! The students have been adapting to their new school, friends, and teachers. We feel so blessed to be a school family. This week we will be starting all our specialty classes, starting out with PE on Monday. This also marks the beginning of lunch time and quiet time. Please bring in a blanket if you haven’t already. They will go home on Fridays to be washed. Homework will be going home today! It is due on Friday. Please do not send it back early. I’m asking each family to please donate ten dollars to cover art supplies for the school year. As a kindergarten class you can imagine the supplies that need to be purchased. Thank you in advance for helping us create an interactive, hands-on classroom experience. Please make sure your child is in the proper uniform Monday-Friday. Our PE days are on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting next week they must wear their PE shirt (no polo shirt underneath or on top). Also we do not get free-dress Mondays, that is a behavior incentive plan utilized fourth grade to eighth grade. We will have free-dress days, but not on a weekly basis. Thank you and God bless. Mrs. Chapman: Welcome! Thank you to all families for attending Back to School Night. I enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone. I am very pleased to announce we now have enough leveled readers. Thank you to everyone who donated either the leveled books or cash for me to purchase more books. We will begin the leveled reader program next week. Homework packets went home today. Please check your child’s backpack. Reading groups will begin in a couple of weeks. I need someone to coordinate volunteers. This can be done from home. If you volunteer for this position you will make a chart to schedule in volunteers for reading. If anyone is going to be absent then they will notify you. If anyone is interested please let me know ASAP. I also need a couple of parents to come in to the classroom to pull workbook pages. If you are available for this task please let me know. Mrs. Hendry:

Welcome to ART SMART! Holy Family’s Student Learning Expectations include “appreciate the arts” and “recognize God-given talents” - the two primary objectives of our new art program.

The thematic unit for August and September is Landscape Artwork featuring four artists: Ansel Adams, Albert Bierdstadt, Georgia O’Keefe and Thomas Moran. Please see the school website for a slide show which will be presented to your child at the first art appreciation class.

It was great to meet the parents of my students last

week at Back-to-School. If you were not able to make it, please feel free to drop by my classroom some time and introduce yourself. This week, in all Religion classes, we will be getting aquainted with the textbook and identifying some key topics we will be covering this year. In 6th grade math, we will be discussing sequences, order and properties of operations, and hopefully begin solving for variables. In 7th grade math, we will review variables, properties of operations, and begin sequences. In 8th grade math, we will continue our discussion from last week on Real Numbers, and move on to variables and simplifying expressions and hopefully jump into some advanced order of operations. Weekly Mass begins this Friday at 8:30am.

Week One Requirement: a landscape sketch to be completed during class time.
