TO ALL CARERS AND PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN YEAR 1: HOMEWORK Dear Parents Thank you for your continued support with getting children in to school on time and ready for learning. We really appreciate that you are encouraging your children to come in independently. Most children are remembering to bring in their book bags and water bottles each day. We want to remind you that the most important “homework” your child is doing at this stage is reading regularly. This is a vital skill that will support their future learning throughout their time at school and beyond. A few minutes each evening now could save you many hours later on. Please record when you read in their diaries. We do read and consider your comments. The children need to show evidence that they are reading regularly to be “an always child,” with all the rewards that come with this. We encourage you to use Alphablocks and Phonics Play. Type into your search engine. Let us know if you need support. (Please be aware of adverts which may pop up.) The children have been learning to count forwards and backwards to 10, 20 and beyond (including missing numbers), and in 2s (odds and evens). They have learnt the following active songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VLxWIHRD4E Counting to 20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srPktd4k_O8 Counting back from 20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INHYb1RNaMM Adding 1 more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifIh1gg4O58 1 less song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvTcpfSnOMQ Counting in 2s song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TgLtF3PMOc Counting to 100, and exercise (also try counting in 2s, etc) We have enjoyed cosmic yoga stories: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Going on a Bear Hunt.” In our next maths block, we will be learning addition and subtraction facts: doubling / halving numbers; adding / subtracting 1 and 0; pairs of numbers which make 10. These songs are amongst the ones we’ll use to support: Double Number Zoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-KTHfrFit0 Number pairs that make 10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZi-6_-Uhwc All of the children have enjoyed the songs we are learning and we love seeing them active in their learning. We hope you enjoy them too. Please let us know if you discover any new ones. There are many songs for your older and younger children, too! Have fun! The Year 1 Team
