If you’ve been out and about in Hounslow Borough, you may well have seen us at our stall in Brentford Market on Sundays, which we have been using to promote cycling in collaboration with London Bike Hub, who have provided a bike maintenance service. We provide advice on how to get cycle training and we publicise our guided rides
Our stall at Brentford Market
We have coordinated nine guided rides this year, the most recent of which was a fun ride to see the Christmas Lights in town. Our rides are relaxed and always suited to all ages and abilities. Everyone is welcome. Our Halloween ride involved storytelling and we are looking forward to being involved in the Feltham Arts Festival in June 2015 where we will coordinate bike rides between a series of art installations. Our calendar of rides for 2015 will soon be available on our website. Our Halloween Guided Bike Ride
We have an ongoing and productive dialogue with Councillors and council officers and we campaign for protected space for cycling. The Council have responded to our Space for Cycling Campaign ‘asks’ with proposals for 20mph speed limits and some protected cycle lanes. We have urged our supporters to support proposals when we feel the Council is providing routes that will make cycling more attractive. We are hopeful that, in particular, the schemes planned for Hounslow Road (Hanworth) and Boston Manor Road (Brentford) will provide a much better cycling environment. The cycle lanes proposed for Hounslow Road were something we asked Councillors for during the Space for Cycling campaign in Spring 2014, so it is great to see progress towards a better environment for people travelling by bike in that bit of Hanworth. We are hopeful that Councillors will soon get the chance to consider a Borough-wide 20mph speed limit on residential roads. If that happens, we expect to be urging people to support that by meeting people face to face and campaigning online. Get the latest on that and all our news by following us on Twitter. With the general election happening next year, we will soon be planning questions about cycling provision to be put to all those who stand for election. Let us know if you have thoughts on this. You are welcome to our monthly meetings (details on our website). At these meetings we discuss plans for cycle rides, we discuss our views on Council proposals and how to be involved in London Cycling Campaign initiatives. If you’ve got a cycling issue you’d like to chat about, do come along.
