Summer Term Newsletter No. 6 Dear Parents/Carers, Another busy week at Hounslow Town and another one next week! Congratulations to Key Stage 1 for completing all the national tests –we are sure every child has done their best and will continue to work hard for the remainder of the year. Well done to 3Ruby for a wonderful class assembly on Thursday. It was informative and interesting and the whole audience learnt a lot about Vaishaki. The recorder playing was outstanding and we are all very proud of you. A few reminders for next week:Day for Change – 26th May – NEXT THURSDAY Don’t forget next Thursday is non-uniform day for £1 each to support Day for Change. We have a special challenge for parents! Parent Challenge On Thursday 26th May we would like to challenge all parents to take part in our Day for Change Coin Challenge. We will be raising money for the charity Unicef, which supports countries like Syria. Please bring in as many coins as you can at the end of the day if you accept our challenge! We will be drawing the Syrian Flag on our upper playground and would like to see how much of the flag you can cover with your coins! We thank you in advance for your support and look forward to seeing you there! Any questions, please speak to your child’s class teacher. Class Photos – 27th May - NEXT FRIDAY. Please ensure your child is in the correct school uniform so they look their smartest for their photo! Even though it might be sunny in the morning, please bring in coats for those odd showers that occur in the middle of the day. We do like to give children the opportunity to be outside as much as possible around learning time.

Please read attached letter from Public Health England about Measles. Have a good weekend!

Book Fair Thank you to everyone for your support at the book fair. We had many people visit and buy books and this means that we will be able to buy more books for the school. It really shows how enthusiastic we are about reading at Hounslow Town! Extreme Reading! Thank you to everybody who entered the competition for ‘Extreme Reading’. It was so hard to choose from the entries because they were all so great! Miss Little received photos of children reading in cupboards, suitcases, on a trampoline and even in a trolley while shopping! A display will be made of all the photos and pictures that were sent in so that everyone can see Hounslow Town extreme reading. Thank you also to Miss Gillespie and Mrs McInerney for your entries too! The winners of a £5 voucher off from the book fair are: Rujula 3 Cherry, Ananya 4 Scarlet, Yash 3 Red, Vibha Yellow class and Vienos 3 Red. A special mention should be given to Timeea in 4 Poppy with her dog, Teddy. Teddy will be receiving some dog treats along with a prize for Timeea as it just proves that even your pets can read too!

Walk to School Week – 6th-10th June 2016 The first week of the 2nd half of the Summer Term marks our annual Walk to School Week. It is a national incentive, aimed at making children become more environmentally conscious and journey to school using an ecologically friendly method of travelling. For one week, your child is encouraged to make an extra special effort and travel to school by foot, scooter or bicycle for each day of the week. They could be really adventurous and try skateboarding or rollerblading! Here at Hounslow Town we will be promoting initiatives to get everyone moving. The theme of this year’s Walk to School Week is wildlife. Hounslow Town will be receiving a visit from Debra the Zebra, who is part of the Council’s Road Safety awareness campaign and who will be sharing the benefits of walking to school with KS1. Everyone will be encouraged to take part in our design a Walk to School certificate, which will have the theme of habitats to inspire our entrants. The closing date will be 7th June and the winner will be announced at the end of the Walk to School Week. Everyone at Hounslow Town enjoys dressing up! So this year, to tie in with our theme of wildlife; all children will be encouraged to dress up as an animal of their choice, or wear an animal themed piece of clothing for a small contribution of £1. The proceeds of which will go to our fundraising event which will be to purchase outdoor equipment for each class. Our fund raising event will be connected to our animal dress up! Each child will be asked to complete circuits of the playground, preferably in animal costume and mimicking the movement of an animal of their choice. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR WHAT DAY YOU NEED TO DRESS UP! The week promises to be fun for all involved and we urge you to help your child enjoy the benefits of a healthier method of travelling to school, after all the summer starts now and when better to get out and exercise those legs! Quad Kids Competition On the 12th May, 20 extremely fortunate girls and boys from Years 5 & 6 went to the Hounslow Quad-kids Athletics Competition, which was held at Chatsworth Primary School, to represent Hounslow Town in running, jumping and throwing events. We competed in long jump and javelin throwing. The javelin throwing was really fun. Hounslow Town came in 3rd (blue and white team)and 4th (black and white team) places. Everyone made a fantastic effort and we are very proud of ALL our athletes. By Sandra (Y6 Sports Journalist)
