Lodgings This includes arrangements where there is a resident landlord and rent is charged for the use of the room. Services may be provided, (eg. meals), but this would be negotiated with the landlord. The Tourist Information Centre at the The One Stop Shop keep details of Bed & Breakfast accommodation and often advertisements for lodgings are displayed in newsagents’ windows. Once again, acceptance of lodgings may affect your points total, but you can remain on the Housing Register. House Purchase House prices in the district are currently competitive and represent a viable alternative to renting for those with an adequate income. Details can of course be obtained from Estate Agents and advertisements are carried in the local free papers, the `Herald and Post’ and `Citizen’ as well as a Wednesday and Saturday main feature in the local `Evening Telegraph’. You should note that if you purchase a property, your Housing Application will be re-assessed and as you will no longer be in housing need you will not be entitled to any points.

Council Housing Assessment of an application is based on the actual date of registration as well as housing need, and the degree of need will depend on the particular category and circumstances of the application. Regrettably, however, the waiting times for Council accommodation in some areas are long. If you are wishing to move in the near future, or are not eligible at the moment to go on the Housing Register, please read the following guidance notes on the various housing alternatives that may be open to you. Housing Associations On occasions the Council is able to nominate applicants for properties managed locally by Housing Associations. At present Housing Associations active in the town are:•
Orbit Housing Association
•
Leicester Housing Association
•
Bedfordshire Pilgrims Housing Association
•
Places for People (Formerly North British Housing Association)
•
Spire Homes
If you are nominated from the Housing Register or accept a tenancy with one of the Housing Associations you will be considered as adequately housed and your application will have been used. If you should subsequently wish to move within the town it may only be by way of mutual exchange or by transfer within your landlord’s normal rules. You may re-apply to Corby Borough Council after you have been a tenant with the Housing Association for 2 years. Renting Accommodation in the Private Sector There are a number of agents who have details of accommodation available for rental by private landlords. This may be either self-contained or on a shared house basis, but without a resident landlord. A list of these agents can be obtained form the One Stop Shop in Grosvenor House. The local newspapers also have an `Accommodation’ section where further privately rented properties are advertised. If you accept a private tenancy your application may be subject to adjustment of points, but you can remain on the Housing Register.

Housing Associations offer accommodation at market rents. The accommodation is modern and you would have the same security of tenure, under the Housing Act 1996, as Council Tenants.
