Started as a Support a school project in 2005-2006 2011-2012 - 7 schools; 500 students One of the largest projects supported by Asha- SV Had a surplus of funds in 2011 - so no funds were sent last year (ie. 2011-12) Library at Kulethi with over 2500 books Science Resource Center at Kulethi has over 125 experiment kits Savidya formed knowledge clubs amongst learned people to improve training and feedback Various events organized throughout the year 6 students got the Navodaya scholarships Site visit by 4 students from NMIMS who spent 3 weeks at Champawat Pros - Positive attitude of parents to education, improved academic performance and recognition by govt Cons - Parent community involvement and teacher retention Recommendations from site visit - increase teacher sal and few others Total funds requested - 1,690,600. Increase of 7.3% from last year Primary increase is the teacher’s salary which goes up around 50% More money for outreach events (73,400/- in total) around 20K more Site visit has been expensed around 20K. Discussions went around on having a standard set of people to do site visits o Kalyan’s opinion - have dedicated staff for site-visits like Vibha; work for a local NGO so that you have a good ground association here
2. Changes to Project Proposal
After the project presentation, the 2012-13 project proposal was modified to reduce the overall budget to Rs. 1,617,200 – a 2.3% increase over the 2011-12 budget.
3. Funding Renewal Poll
Poll conducted on the AshaSV-Vol Yahoo Groups. This Yahoo Groups list was created in 2001 to facilitate discussions among volunteers at the Silicon Valley Chapter.
Poll Question Do you approve INR 16,17,200 for Savidya Upasamiti project towards April 2012-2013 budget. The funds will be used toward facilities, salaries, admin and staff training expenses. Last year's budget of 15,81,450 INR represented a 20% budget cut over 2010-2011. The budget for this year at 16,17,200 INR is due to a increase in admin salaries. The budget was presented at the chapter meeting on April 18, 2012.
