INGRAVE JOHNSTONE C OF E PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER ‘Realising the potential of every child within a caring Christian community’

Friday 17th June 2016 Dear Parents and Carers, Friday again – how can that be? Once again, lots to tell you about. THE QUEEN’S 90th BIRTHDAY PARTY IN THE PARK It was lovely to see so many of you at the Birthday Party in the Park last Saturday – what an event it was! Didn’t the children sing well in front of such a large audience? Well done to them. SAFETY WEEK We have had a very busy week this week focusing on all aspects of safety and all the children have had the opportunity to find out more about how to stay safe in a wide range of situations. We have had a Police Officer and Fire Officer coming in to talk to the children both in the classrooms and in Assembly times. A representative of the NSPCC came to talk to the children about the work of the NSPCC and what children can do when they are worried about anything. A Criminal Lawyer came to talk to the Year 5 children about e-Safety and the law and about how the law helps to keep children safe. National Child Safety Week was a national initiative organised by the Child Accident Prevention Trust to raise awareness of the risks of child accidents and how they can be prevented. In their classes children had the opportunity to find out more about safety issues including road safety, safety within the home, stranger danger, fire safety, e-safety and personal safety. Thank you Miss Disley for organising all of this for us.

CRUCIAL CREW In addition to all the other safety activities they have been doing this week, Class 6 went to their Crucial Crew event in Epping on Thursday. Crucial Crew is an interactive safety initiative based around teaching key life skills to 10-11 year olds. Crucial Crew teaches children how to tackle dangers and challenges they encounter in everyday life. Our children found the day valuable and, as always, were very well behaved. CLASS 2 ASSEMBLY A very well done to all the children in Class 2 who put on a super assembly this week for parents and carers. Everyone really enjoyed the assembly and the children had so much work to share about their Ocean topic. Thank you to those of you who came along to the assembly and thank you too to all the Year 2 members of staff, Miss Neill, Mrs Redman, Mrs Belcher, Mrs Hart, Miss Fleckney and Mrs Nelson for helping the children learn so much! Well done again children. ATTENDANCE The class with the highest attendance for this week was Class 5 with 98.48%. Well done! Our whole school attendance for the week was 96%. May we please remind parents, that if your child has an upset tummy, they should not return to school until 48 hours after the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea. Thank you.

SPORTS DAY With the Rio Olympics coming up in the summer, we have decided to make an Olympic effort with our Sports Day this year! Those of you who walk through the park to school will have noticed the Olympic-size running track that has been put into the park for us. The children have already started to use the new track and really enjoy the challenge of trying to get all the way round it! This year we will have separate Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 events. Both events will take place on Wednesday 29th June. The Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 classes will have their races at 9.15 am and the Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 event will start at 1.30 pm. A popular part of our Sports Day events are always the parent and carer races – which in the past have been known to be a little bit competitive! This year we are inviting you to join in working together as a team and we will be having parent running relay races around the new track. Get talking and get into those teams –

there should be a minimum of 4 in a team but there can be more if you don’t want to run quite so far. Just turn up with your team on the day to take part. Teams can also be put together on the day. Teams can be all women, all men or mixed. The School Sports Captains are going to choose prizes for all those taking part.

CHILDREN’S NEWSLETTER PAGE Isabel Waller in Class 6 came to see me with a very good idea. She thought it was very important to have a children’s section of the newsletter and I agree. So we have sent out separately the first copy of The Weekly Planet. This will now be a weekly feature of the newsletter and will include thoughts from children throughout the school. Isabel is taking on the important role of Editor. Well done Isabel. YEAR 6 END OF YEAR PRODUCTION Rehearsals are underway for the Class 6 production of Beauty and the Beast at the end of the term. We are in need of some technical equipment and were wondering if any of you out there would have any mikes, mike stands or speakers to loan us for the production? Please let Mrs Baumber, Mrs Allan or Mrs Palmer know if you do have some equipment that we can borrow – thank you. SAINSBURY’S VOUCHERS Thank you to everyone for all the Sainsbury Vouchers you sent in to school this year. The vouchers always enable us to buy a whole range of new sports equipment for the school. A huge thank you to Mrs Brew who very kindly counted all the vouchers for us. This year we have collected 8005. Thank you everyone. END OF SCHOOL ARRANGEMENTS Could we please once again remind you that if your child has a play date please let the teacher know in the morning or make a note in your child’s diary. We understand that there may be exceptional circumstances when arrangements are made late in the day but please try to avoid this if possible. Please note that if you need your child to go to Little Legs / Party House you must make arrangements directly with them. The school office are not able to do this for you. SCHOOL MEALS May we please remind parents that ParentPay accounts must be in credit before your child orders a school meal. Thank You. ST. NICHOLAS CHURCH EVENTS Sundays at 9.30 am Holy Communion and Sunday school There is also communion at 10.00am on a Wednesday morning.
