Objectives • To foster student interest in robotics and autonomous systems operating in the maritime domain. • To promote discussions and collaborations on innovative technologies and approaches with universities and organizations developing autonomous unmanned vehicle technologies.

Venue and Date • The Floating Platform @ Marina Bay • Aug/Sep 2014 – National Day Parade 9 Aug – F1 Race 21-23 Sep

Key Tasks • To demonstrate autonomy in navigation. • To demonstrate obstacle avoidance capabilities. • To demonstrate launching and recovering of subsystem. • To demonstrate docking with other platform, moving or stationary. • To demonstrate object identification, both above and underwater.

Standard USV Platform

Judging Criteria • Paper, oral presentation, website, and inwater performance components. • To foster interactions and sharing among the participants, tasks and rules that require 2 or more universities to perform the tasks together could be included.

Participants • Suggest participation at University level instead of at National Level. • NUS, NTU and SUTD in Singapore have expressed interest to participate. • ONR’s considerations to limit it to only 4 teams.

Workshop/Symposium • To conduct workshop/symposium as part of the competition programme.

Prizes and award/Grant • For discussions. • RoboBoat 2011 for top teams are as follows : 1st Place - ($6,000), 2nd Place - ($4,000), 3rd Place - ($3,000), 4th Place - ($2,000), 5th Place - ($1,000), 6th Place - ($500), 7th Place - ($500). Awards ($500) such as Best paper, Best presentation, Best performance may also be awarded.)

Beyond 2014 • Competition could be hosted by other countries. ONR to host in 2015? • Could expand to include multi-vessel, multi-domain competition.
