Prayer…..does it really make a difference? James 5:16 - Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. The answer to that question is absolutely yes, prayer really makes a difference.

Pastor David Koch

Each New Year, our Assembly of God fellowship gives extra attention to focusing on prayer.

Prayer matters because: God’s word encourages us to pray without ceasing – I Thess 5:17 – Pray continually God hears the prayers of the righteous – James 5:16….The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Jesus modeled it – Mark 1:35 - Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. That is where our faith is exercised – James 5:15 - And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Take some extra time this first week of the New Year and spend it with your heavenly Father in prayer. There are so many things that we need to be praying about. I’ve suggested some below: The transition in our national government in Washington The search for a Family and Children’s Pastor at CLF The extraordinary Acts initiative – resources to fund the projects yet to be done The election of board members at our February Annual Meeting The outreaches from CLF in 2017 Salvation of souls through the ministry of CLF Anointing of the Holy Spirit on our paid and volunteer staff as they serve I’ve seen so many answers to prayer in my own life and ministry. Let’s be a praying people not just in the first week of 2017, but throughout the entire year! I know we will be amazed at what God does this year in response to the prayers we offer up to Him in faith and trust. Here to serve David Koch 2

Praying Prayers that Always Get Answered…

I am not sure who said this, but I believe it to be true: Prayer is not so much overcoming God’s reluctance as it is tapping into God’s willingness. 1 John 5:14-15 So here’s some prayers that always will get a YES from heaven:  May your Kingdom come and your Will be done in my life as it is in the heavens.  Be glorified in me and in my situations.  Release what is needed to draw my friends or family to Jesus.  Make me like Jesus.  Fulfill your purpose and your promise in my life. “Praying with Confidence” by Jeff Leake

The board met for their December meeting on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 6:30 PM All members were present. Several board members led in prayer for various needs and for God’s wisdom and direction in our transition with Pastor Laura and our search for another Family and Children’s Pastor. The board approved the financial report that was presented by Penny York: CLF finished the month of November with an adjusted loss of -$8,013.23, a checking account balance of $52,653.82 and $28,153.68 in savings. General Fund income is down in November ($22,034.66) with November being the lowest month YTD. However, General Fund still nearly met its November goal. Expenses are up for November, contributing to November’s reported loss. Income for Youth Convention posted in October but the expenses didn’t post until November. November also posted three pay periods. YTD Surplus/Loss: September and November are the only two months of 2016 that reported a loss. As of November 31, 2016 the YTD Adjusted Surplus is $35,719.87. CLF is expected to finish 2016 in the black. Expenses are on track with income and both Missions and General Fund income met their budget projections by mid November. Balance Sheet: Large liabilities (accounts payable) include $16,500 to Applied Sealcoating which is a capital improvement and will be paid out of existing capital improvement (EA) funds. The other accounts payable include budgeted missions and operating expenses. Capital Fund (EA): The Capital Fund ended November with $33,336.44 in savings with $16,500 outstanding to Applied Sealcoating. Large November expenses included $54,898 for roofing repairs. Extraordinary Acts is expected to meet its year-end income Board goal of $103,846.15 which includes first fruits and weekly giving.

Notes

The minutes from the November meeting were approved as printed. The board will meet on Monday, December 19th to finalize the 2017 annual budget. It appears that we will present a balanced budget to the congregation at our annual meeting in February. The board approved the slate of names to consider for nominees from the nominating committee. Each nominee will be sent a letter and a form of response as to their willingness to serve. The board discussed a replacement for Penny Ross as treasure. Pastor Dave will contact names of the individuals who were suggested to see if they are willing to serve. Pastor Dave shared what he has done to reach out and network with leaders to seek another staff member for the Family and Children’s Pastor Position. Kari Smalley has given indication that she would be willing to help out during our transition. Pastor Dave, Pastor Laura and Kari have set up a meeting for Wednesday, December 14 th to discuss moving forward. The board reviewed the list of active members for the annual congregation meeting in February. There will be a new member’s class on Sunday, January 15th at 8:45 AM The board discussed how we will honor Pastor Laura on her last Sunday with us, December 18 th. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM

Charlie Chivers—Special Touch—“Mary’s Story” Proverbs 20:24 Looking back on my week at Summer Get Away, this verse sums it up perfectly, When my husband, Ryan, asked me to go last year, I couldn’t do it. My brother Stephen, who had Cerebral Palsy was gone almost 13 years. For that long, I’d been avoiding people with special needs, because I felt it would be too painful. Ryan asked me to go again this year. After much hesitation I finally agreed, but only if I could serve alongside him and wasn’t involved in caring for any guests. I knew it would be difficult just being there. Though still apprehensive, I felt a little better after we were given the assignment to help lead evening worship and assist the Caregivers In Training (teenagers serving as part of a missions trip). The night before leaving I found out my assignment had changed, through a series of what I now know were God-directed steps. I was going to be a caregiver. I immediately told Ryan that I I couldn’t do it! He reminded me that if I didn’t, the guest I was supposed to care for couldn't attend.

After fighting my desire not to go and a restless night’s sleep, we headed off to the camp. During a long drive to Wisconsin, I silently prayed that I could go back to my original assignment. It didn’t happen. After arriving, I reluctantly took the guest profile and began reading about Charity.

Charity has Cerebral Palsy, just like Stephen. Again, I questioned God. How could I do this? I reminded Him, that the plan was for me to come with Ryan and interact with the guests on my terms...when I was comfortable with it! But He gently reminded me that His ways are higher than mine. If I had my way I would have never had moments with Charity, moments of healing, remembering my brother, and the joy of working with her. God knew that.

I learned many things from Charity, the girls in my cabin, and every guest I came in contact with that week. Each one of them seemed to live, love and worship without abandon or inhibition. It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever experienced. Without even looking for it, I had found Heaven on earth that week, located in a small campground in Waupaca.
