Game time: Two 15-minute runningclock halves Clock stops for team and officials’ time outs
Clock stops on all whistles (violations, fouls, ball out of play, goals, etc.) in the last 2 minutes OF THE GAME.
Teams get 4, 30-sec. time out per game
Starting the game: All 5 players seated in tubes touching their back wall of the pool.
Official will toss ball to center of pool
Overtime: 3-on-3 shootout from 2-pt. line. If still tied 1-on-1 until there is winner.
Mercy Rule:
25-pt. differential or more in last 5 min. of game OR 15-pt. differential or more in last 2 min. of game
If opponents both gain possession and control of a loose ball, “alternating possession” is based off who got the opening free ball This is also used to determine which team starts with the ball in the 2nd half
During time outs, players may sub, but cannot move their tubes
Scoring rules: Goal scored on or in front of 6-yd. line by o
= 1 pt.
Goal scored from beyond the 6-yd. line by o = 2 pts. Shot released before the horn sounds will remain live until try scores or is unsuccessful
Crease rules:
Ball in crease (3-yard line) is goalie-ball No other players allowed in crease Goalie cannot play ball outside the crease Goalie cannot pass ball across the division line “Advantage”- a delayed violation will be used if there is an immediate goal scoring opportunity for the offense while defender is in crease.
Closely Guarded rule: Player cannot be in control of the ball with a defender guarding them (in front of them or to the side) within 6 feet for 5 seconds – “Control” includes having the ball in the water next to tube Cannot hold ball under water Cannot push/push off of other player’s tubes when they don’t have the ball
VIOLATIONS:
Result in indirect throw Intentionally splashing Kicking a ball in flight (other than the goalie) Kicking an opponent’s empty tube A defender falling from tube during or immediately following their dumping of an opponent during a shot Goalie pass across division line without touching something Passing a live ball back to the goalie
PERSONAL FOULS:
Result in a penalty shot for offended team Common example: Batting a ball held by an opponent cannot “strip” or hit the ball out of an opponent’s hand(s) Defender playing the ball in the crease If the shot scores penalty ignored
Cards
Given for (but not limited) to unsporting conduct.
o
A YELLOW card results in a player immediately having to sub out of the game, the player must remain out until the next opportunity to sub. If no sub is available teams must play down a player until the next sub opportunity. Teams may not call an immediate time out to get a carded player in the game. (game must legally restart for player to become eligible).
o
A RED card results in a player’s ejection, and their team playing down 1 player for remainder of game.
o 2 RED card or 3 YELLOW cards on team = FF
2 unsporting fouls or yellows = PLAYER EJECTION 3 unsp. fouls by a team in a game = FORFEIT Ejected player: Must leave the pool Suspended from ALL IM’s minimum of 1 week Must meet with IM Sports professional staff to discuss lifting suspension Playoff ejection: Automatically suspended from remainder of that sport’s playoffs Depending on severity of incident, Student Recreation Center membership/access may also be suspended
