 Players CANNOT play on 2 men’s or 2 women’s teams or 2 coed teams  One coed team + one women’s/men’s team = OK  CURRENT-ACADEMIC YEAR COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL athletes CANNOT play IM volleyball  FORMER college VB players can play IM VB, but a max of 1 is permitted per Rec League team roster  There are no restrictions on this for Comp. Leagues  Current Club VB athletes can play IM 6v6 VB, but a max of 2 are permitted per roster  Games with ineligible players will be forfeited

 Online listing in each division

 Contact them directly to pick up I’M A players BALLER

 Players must be on the online roster to be legal players.  If a player is NOT on the score sheet because: 1. Joined after 3pm, or 2. Technical difficulty, or 3. Just got picked up by the team that night, then: They can be written-in. Score sheets and online rosters will then be compared 2 business days later at 5:00pm. (Once a player checks in for a team they are a member of that team) Write-ins from the score sheet that are NOT on the online roster by that time will be considered illegal players, and the match result will be changed to a forfeit. (Even if they game is won by forfeit)  Players cannot be deleted/removed from rosters by captains or players. Please contact IM office to do this. – Email/phone/inperson  Rosters are locked after your last regular season match.

 Match time is forfeit time  If one team has players present, but not enough to start a match, the prepared team has the following options:  Take the win by forfeit, OR  Give your opponent an additional 5 minutes to field an eligible team  Forfeits count worse than losses  Sp. rating of 1

 2 FF = eliminated from playoffs

(and possibly from the league)

 Must contact IM office (email, phone, or in-person) by 12pm day of match (or Friday, for weekend matches)  Worse than a loss in standings, but better than a FF  Sp. Rating of 2

Scale is 3-0, and every team starts every game with a 3 3 – Above average 2 – Average 1 – Below average 0 – Unacceptable – Teams receiving a 1 or 0 must meet with IM staff before next game. – Must maintain 2.0 sp. average to advance through each round of playoffs

 For non-contact sports (like VB), players may wear jewelry  Restrictions: Nothing that hangs far from the body or is too big

OTHER EQUIPMENT RULES  Must wear non-marking, closed-toe shoes  No hard-brimmed hats; no bandanas with knots  Teammates are required to wear shirts/jerseys with numbers on 1 side (matching shirts not required)  Penalty for illegal equipment: 1 pt. and serve awarded to other team

 Max roster size = 12  Minimum needed to play = 2  Only Coed rule:  Difference between genders on court cannot be greater than 1  Subs can come onto court into any position  Subs must remain on court for 2 rotations

 R-P-S winner = Choice of side or serve before 1st and 3rd games  Best 2 of 3 games  Games 1 and 2 played to 21 pts. (must win by 2 pts.), cap of 25  If necessary, game 3 played to 15 pts. (win by 1 pt.)

 Teams get one 30-sec. time out per game

 Court Boundary basics:  A ball is out when it:  Lands completely outside the court boundary lines  Contacts or passes over either antennae  Contacts a wall, official, referee stand, opponent under the net, net outside the antenna, net support structures

 A ball contacting the ceiling (or something attached to the ceiling) on the attacking team’s side is STILL IN PLAY, as long as it is next played by the attacking team before crossing over  Ball contacts backboard = Referee’s discretion

 The Serve  Must be hit from behind the service line  There is no blocking or attacking the serve  A serve that contacts the net and continues over IS LEGAL

 Back Row Players  Cannot contact ball above the plane of the net from on or in front of the 10-ft. line

 Net Play  Players cannot touch the net  Players can touch opponents’ side of court, as long as some part of that hand or foot touching their court is still in contact with the center line

 Ball Contact  Can play the ball with ANY part of the body, as long as it isn’t a “lift”  “Lift” – Occurs when ball comes to rest on a touch  “Double contact” – Occurs when a player either makes successive contacts OR if the ball spins excessively off of a set

 Cards

 A YELLOW card results in a loss of serve, and point for the opposition

 A RED card results in a player’s ejection, as well as the opposing team being awarded the game

 2 RED cards or 3 YELLOW cards = FF

2 unsporting fouls = ejection 3 unsporting fouls by a team in a match = forfeit Ejected player must leave the gym If any player is ejected during a contest they will be required to meet with an IM Sports professional staff member (typically the Asst. Director) prior to being permitted to participate in any IM event Ejections typically carry a minimum suspension of 1 week from ALL IM participation Playoff ejection: Automatically suspended from remainder of that sport’s playoffs (across all divisions) Depending on severity of incident, Student Recreation Center membership/access may also be suspended
