INTRAMURALS VOLLEYBALL RULES OPEN/WOMEN/COREC ELIGIBILITY 1. Any current full-time or part-time student at Fresno State are eligible. Any Faculty and Staff who want to play must purchase a $ 25.00 Intramural Participation Card for each semester in which they wish to participate. 2. Every player MUST present a valid Fresno State ID card to the supervisor in charge of the field before EVERY game. 3. Current intercollegiate athletes are ineligible to compete in the same or related sport. 4. Members of sport clubs are allowed to participate in the respective intramural sport, however, a maximum of two sport club members are allowed on any one intramural team. You are considered a sport club member for 1-year after your sport club membership ends. 5. Each team must declare a team captain. Captains or a representative of each team MUST attend a designated captain’s meeting. Failure to attend a captain’s meeting will may result in a forfeit. Participants are allowed to sign up as free agents and must attend a separate free agent meeting where they will be assigned a team. Failure to appear to a free agent meeting may result in removal from league. 6. Every team will get one late game that they will be able to use throughout the entire season. If a team decides to use their late game they will get an additional 5 minutes before opening serve. Each team will also be allowed two forfeits throughout the season, on the third, the team will lose eligibility for the tournament. 7. Participants can play on one Open/Women’s team and one CoRec. Players can not be on two teams in the same division (Open, Women’s & CoRec) 8. Participants must play in two (2) league games to be eligible to play in tournament games.

SPORTSMANSHIP 1. Sportsmanship is everyone's responsibility. We hope that everyone will conduct him or herself in a mature and friendly manner. Unsportsmanlike behavior may be called on any participant, substitute, or spectator. TEAM CAPTAINS are responsible for the conduct of their players and their spectators. 2. All teams are required to maintain a 3.50 sportsmanship to be eligible for playoffs. Any team who receives two “3” ratings in the playoffs will be eliminated, regardless of whether they won or not. Any team who receives a “2” or lower rating in the playoffs will be eliminated regardless of whether they won or not. 3. Penalties for rough play are sport specific and will be enforced in addition to unsportsmanlike penalties. The following is an example list of unsportsmanlike conducts:  

Unsportsmanlike: Non-directional profanity, arguing with officials; unnecessary contact, taunting opponents. Ejection: Directional profanity, flagrant contact, fighting.

If a player receives 2 unsportsmanlike calls anytime during the regular season or tournament, the player will be placed on temporary probation until he/she meets with the program coordinator in charge of the activity. If a team receives 4 unsportsmanlike calls anytime during regular season or tournament, a letter will be sent to the team captain to inform him/her of their intramural team status. Teams with four may be either dropped from further play or be placed on warning. Teams on warning will be dropped from further play immediately, if another yellow or red card is given to any team member. 4. TRASH: If a team leaves any trash on their court they will be given a 3 in sportsmanship. Each team is responsible for leaving the field cleaner than when they arrived. EQUIPMENT 1. Volleyballs will be provided and meet the regulation requirements of NFHS Associations. 2. Athletic attire must be worn at all times. Athletic non-marking shoes must be worn in the gym. a. No billed hats, or head attire with hard knots will be not allowed. 3. No jewelry may be worn at anytime including: hats, sleeves, glasses, baller bands, necklaces, sunglasses, watches, earrings or any other piercings. If it is not naturally part of your body it can not be worn in a game. ONLY true sweatbands may be worn. The player will need step off the court and will sit out for one serve.

GAME PLAY 1. GAME TIME IS FORFEIT TIME. Please arrive 15 minutes before game time. 2. Matches will consist of the best three (3) out of five (5) games to fifteen (15) points. The first four (4) sets are to 15 points; you do not have to win by two (2) except in the 5th set. Set five (5) will go to 7 points and win by two (2). Rally scoring will be used throughout the match and there will be a cap at 10 in the 5th set. 3. TIME-OUTS: A team may have one time-out per set. No unused time-out may carry over to another set. REGULATIONS Intramural Volleyball play abides by the National Federation of High School Associations Rules with the following exceptions: 1. A team will need at least 4 players to start a game. In CoRec games, 1 of those players must be a female. A legal game will can consist of 1 female and 3 males. A full team will consist of 3 females/3 males (A team can never consist of more than 3 males on the court at the same time). A team can have more than 3 females on the floor if the y do not have enough males. A legal team could have 6 females on the court at same time. 2. During play, unless there is only one hit, a girl must make contact with the ball before it returns to the opponent's side. 3. Blocking - USVBA rules will apply (i.e. reaching over the net is permitted). In the rotation, when one male player is in the front row, one male player from the back row may help block at the net. Both male back row players can alternate blocking. Blocking the serve is not permitted. 4. Substitution - Free substitutions may be made but only at the service position. 5. If the serve touches the net, the ball will be played live. 6. Ball in play  When games are in progress on an adjoining court, players may not step into that court to play a ball. However, they may reach into the court to bring the ball back into play.  Balls that hit any part of the ceiling on your side of the net are still in play. 7. Rotation- teams must rotation in the proper order. Substitutes need to enter at the service position. A team will receive a warning about rotation. If a second offense occurs the game may be forfeited. The Office of Intramural Activities reserves the right to make changes without notice, if necessary.
