Introduction to Machine Applique Class Supply List Class Description:
In class you will learn how to machine applique using a zigzag stitch, blanket stitch, raw edge applique and how to appliquilt. We will have a fun filled day learning lots of different techniques. Teacher: Penny Treaster Supplies: Sewing Machine in good working order. You will need to have a thorough knowledge of how your sewing machine works using a zigzag, buttonhole or blanket stitch. Please have a new needle in your machine before coming to class.
Book: Teach Me to Applique by Pat Sloan Open toe appliqué foot (very important to have) Fabric and paper scissors Seam Ripper Black Sharpie Marker - Fine Point Elmer’s Glue stick (Small one) Wound bobbins in white or beige thread Basic Sewing Kit I will provide practice samples for you to work on in class prior to starting your project.
Pre-Class Assignment:
Read pages 7 – 24. We will go through all this information in class – but – it will help if you are familiar with this information while stitching our practice samples. We will be working on Sweet Bea’s Bouquet – pg 30 – in class. You will need to have your background fabric cut into a 16 ½” x 16 ½” square. I did not add the wider outer border to my project...instead I cut my border 2 ½” wide. You can sew this border to your background prior to class. I found it easier to place the applique with the border on.
