Iowa Mountaineers. 1968 was an enjoyable and eventful year. The annual banquet attracted 162 members from six states with Nicholas Clinch the guest speaker. An excellent series of 19 film-lectures were presented by world travelers and explorers with an average attendance of 520 persons. The local and week-end outings drew unusually large groups. Sixteen week-end climbing outings were sponsored with an average attendance of 46 members, 175 new members receiving climbing instruc­ tions. The Sunday afternoon conditioning hikes were unusually popular with the first fall barbeque hike in October attracting 142 members and guests. John Ebert lead a 34-member outing to the Alpine countries of Europe, where 17 major peaks were ascended including the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, Mont Blanc, Ortler, Marmolada, Grossglockner, and many others. A mountain camp was held in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass region of Colorado. There were 68 participants and seven of the major peaks in the area were ascended. The 1969 summer camp will be held in the

Assiniboine Provincial Park of Canada, with a smaller group going into the northern Wind Rivers of Wyoming. An expedition will be sponsored to Peru starting on July 4. A base camp will be located in the Quebrada Quilcayhuanca of the Cordillera Blanca, and simultaneously a large party will attempt to climb Nevado Huascarán.
