Iowa State Dance Team Tryouts
Iowa State Dance Team Tryouts 2017-2018 Season Tryouts for the 2017-2018 Iowa State Dance Team will be held Friday, April 21st, Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23rd in the Forker Building, gyms 175 & 184, on the Iowa State University Campus in Ames, IA.
Squads We have two dance squads at Iowa State, the Cardinal Squad and the Gold Squad. Our spring tryouts typically fill all of the available spots for these two squads. Numbers for each squad are determined each year, but we typically take approximately 18 for each squad. Both squads will dance at: All Home Football games About 1/3 of home Men’s Basketball games About 1/3 of home Women’s Basketball games Select Gold members will travel to select away football games Select Cardinal members will travel to select away basketball games Both squads will compete at Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Competition Selected members from both teams will compete at NDA College Nationals The squads have mandatory practices 3 times a week and workouts 2 times a week. Being on the squad is a full time commitment and requires time-management skills. School is their #1 priority and Dance Team is #2.
Tryout Format Day One --- Friday (5 pm – 9 pm) This evening will be dedicated to meeting people at tryouts, stretching, going over all technique required to be on the team and learning the Fight Song(pom style). Day Two—Saturday (9 am – 4 pm) This day will be dedicated to stretching, excelling in technique, reviewing the Fight Song, and learning a 30-second jazz style dance and a 30-second hip hop style dance. Girls will put in groups of 3 for try outs. Day Three – Sunday (9 am – 4 pm) We will allow some time to review all material taught on Day 1 & Day 2 and then group the girls in a try out order. Each girl will do their technical skills on their own and then the 3 will perform the pom, jazz, and hip hop style dances as a group. Call Backs will be posted outside of the tryout facility and once call backs are done, final squad placements will be posted approximately 1-2 hours later. Anyone who made the team will be asked to return for the first TEAM MEETING to go over all information needed for joining the squad. **** TRYOUTS WILL BE CLOSED****
What to Wear at Tryouts During day one & day two of tryouts, attire should be clean and athletic. Please wear form fitting clothing(booty shorts/dance pants & sports bras/tank tops) with jazz/dance shoes. Come with hair pulled back and out of the face, make up should show natural beauty, and presence should be focused on being on a college dance team. Day of tryouts: Pictures will be taken for those who make the team at the TEAM MEETING so please be ready to put your hair down and make up on. Come to the TEAM MEETING GAME DAY ready!
NO JEWELRY Sports Bra/Cami Top Booty shorts Dance/Jazz shoes Hair done can up be up or down(up for actual try out) Tights GAMEDAY ready Tattoos MUST be covered

2017 Summer Commitments There are a few summer commitments with the squad. Squad members will be asked to fill various appearance request (mainly ISU Tailgate Tours across the state). They will also be asked to return to Ames for three sets of Workshops that will occur once each month (June-August). The August workshop will be planned in accordance with our NDA Summer Collegiate Camp Dates (late July/early August). NDA Camp is 100% required of all squad members. Dates for summer practices and camp will be discussed at the first squad meeting on Sunday, April 23rd .

I am a healthy person, knowledgeable of the athletic abilities required to become a member of the Iowa State Spirit Squad, and prepared to participate in the tryouts for the Iowa State Spirit Squad. I will take all of the necessary precautions before participating in the Iowa State Spirit Squad Tryouts and during the 2016-2017 season at Iowa State. If an injury should occur, I will take full responsibilities for any medical supervision or care that may be necessary (via Athletics Training procedures & protocol per my Spirit Squad Coach). II.
