Volume 2, Issue 2 September 20, 2016 Bicentennial Torch and Homecoming
As a part of Indiana’s Centennial celebration in 1916, a contest was held to design the state flag. Mooresville resident and artist Paul Hadley won the contest with his torch and stars design. (He also won 2nd and 3rd place.) As a part of Indiana’s Bicentennial celebration in 2016, Mooresville will once again play an exciting role. A signature event of Indiana’s Bicentennial celebration is a 92-county “Torch Relay.” The Torch Relay will be a part of the MHS Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday. At approximately 1:35, MHS senior Dustin Nokes will carry the torch into the football/track stadium and be greeted by the MHS student body, PHMS National Honor Society members and cheerleaders, and community members. Dustin will pass the torch to Mooresville Superintendent Dr. David Marcotte who will carry it halfway around the track and to the 50-yard line. There will be a short ceremony at the “Home of the State Flag” logo before Mooresville town council member Virginia Perry carries the torch out of the stadium and passes it to 2016 MHS alumnus Olivia Carlton. Community members wishing to observe the ceremony at MHS will park in the East Football lot and sit in the visitor bleachers. We are very excited to have this Once in a Lifetime event be a part of our Homecoming Festivities! Other Mooresville torch bearers are Dave Nash, Newby Principal Krista Nelson, Newby aide Angie McQueen, and Dr. Brian DIsney Principal Janice McMannis.
Homecoming Need to Knows -The final vote for Homecoming Court will be held on September 21 and 22. -Students wishing to participate in Homecoming Pep Rally activities should see Mrs. Green in the athletic office. -The Powder Puff Fooball Game will be on the varsity football field starting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21. -The Bonfire will be held directly after the Powder Puff Games finish.
