Board Briefs- September 20, 2016 Pledge of Allegiance Prayer I. Roll Call II. Celebrations:

A. SFA student corresponds with a Harvard professor through a letter he sent to the university. The DISD student was very pleasantly surprised to hear back from the Harvard professor. Kudos to our SFA student for taking the initiative to write the letter on the topic of mathematics. B. Richter’s Trading Post is up and operational this week. This is part of their PBIS and ways to use positive incentives for academics and behavior. Way to go ERR! C. DISD elementary campuses all honored their students’ grandparents with a variety of activities and events. Colbert students hosted over 220 grandparents for lunch and had the opportunity to take photos with grandparents at a photo op booth. KMB, ERR, and SFA all had activities for the grandparents and children to participate in together. It was very well attended at all elementary campuses. DISD thanks all of the grandparents who participated in these wonderful events. D. Dayton ISD with the partnerships of both Dayton Chamber of Commerce and Liberty-Dayton Chamber of Commerce held their ribbon-cutting on Sept 10. Both ceremonies were well attended. Four campuses also held Open House for the public. Thank you for everyone who helped, participated and/or attended. We are very proud of our new facilities. E. Congratulations to our Bronco AP Scholars, John Bartee, Justus Alvarez, and Lidia Solano. We are very proud of these young Scholars. F. Several of our DISD students were selected to participate in the Lone Star Leadership Academy. These young leaders include: Jaxon Mercer (9th), Aiden Wadzeck (6th), John Bartee (12th and Facilitator), Anna Brothers (10th and facilitator, and Jaxon Purse (6th). We are proud of these young leaders. G. OnDataSuite training was held this past week for many of our administrators. H. Congratulations to our Cheerleading Squad. They received several awards at Camp this past summer. I. Our Dayton Bronco Sports are well underway. Congratulations to all of our volleyball and football teams, as they have played and continue to improve/win. Dayton ISD fans were excited to have a celebrity at our Homecoming game. Dr. Johnson, Mr. McCracken, Coach Holsinger had the opportunity to meet and take pictures with Olympian Gold Medalist Carl Lewis. He and former DHS graduate Assistant U of H Track Coach Will Blackburn were here on a recruiting trip. Way to go Coach Knight and her fall team tennis athletes as they have held two matches already this year at our new courts. Last Friday, they won 12 out of 14 matches against Splendora ISD. Cross-country held their annual meet this past weekend with 42 HS and 27 Jr. High school teams participated. Coach Asbill also had a Pre-K race, K-2nd grade race, and a 3rd-5th grade race. J. Dayton 4-H and DHS FFA Chapter partnered together this past weekend to have a good show and clinic. Thank you to all who helped to make the weekend a success. K. Parent Meetings are well underway. WWJH held a Springboard Parent Meeting with Mrs. Peggy Smesny and Mrs. Annice Sexton. They went over the format of the curriculum, expectations, and how the classes are the foundation of the AP high school courses. DHS also had a great Senior Parent Meeting and was very well attended. The parents and their senior children had the opportunity to learn about graduation, scholarships, important dates and Project Graduation. L. PTOs have started and at Colbert, they are having the students perform before the meetings to get more parents out. M. Writing is going on throughout the district. Thank you notes were written by our children to the community for the new schools. So proud of our children and their appreciative hearts. N. Colbert Campus presented Dr. Luke Chachere with 19 different new library books in memory of his father Mr. L. J. Chachere. Mr. Chachere was a former Board Member, former DISD teacher, and is a recipient of the distinguished Wall of Fame. III. Communications from the Public- There were not any communications from the public.

Items for Board Action: A. The Board unanimously approved the Consent Agenda. B. The Board unanimously approved the District Facility Usage Agreement for Second Reading. The last update for the usage of our facilities was done in 2009. This updates the district’s agreement for the stadium use, the name changes of some of the facilities, and updated the list of organizations to include the Colbert-Rosenwald Corporation and to delete the YMCA as it no longer exists in Liberty County. C. The Board unanimously approved the Out of State Trip for Dayton High School Marine Cops Junior ROTC. They will be taking about 40-45 students to the Drill Meet in Ponchatoula, Louisiana on Oct. 14 and 15. This will give them the opportunity to compete in the first region 5 drill competition. D. The Board unanimously approved the Out of State Trip for Dayton High School Band. The Band is planning to perform in Orlando, Florida over spring break 2018. This approval allows the Band and Band Booster Club to start the fund-raising process. E. The Board unanimously approved the request from Simabline Development LLC to review an application for appraised value limitation on qualified property pursuant to chapter 313 of the Texas Code. F. The Board unanimously approved the adjunct faculty agreement and a resolution recognizing Liberty County Texas 4-H organization as eligible for extracurricular statue under 19 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 76.1 Adjunct professors that were approved were: Alexis Cordova, Roy Flora, and Amanda Brooks. G. The Board asked to table their nominations to service on the Liberty County Central Appraisal District Review Board (ARB). H. The Board unanimously approved to change the December Board meeting date from December 20, 2016 to December 13, 2016. The last day of school instruction will be December 16, 2016. I. The Board unanimously approved the class size waivers. J. The Board unanimously approved the purchase over $10,000 for additional AP Government and AP Economics textbooks for Dayton High School. This helps with the increased numbers of AP students in these classes. K. The Board unanimously approved the purchase over $10,000 for Technology. This will give each K-5 teacher a minimum of five Chromebooks in their classroom. L. The Board unanimously approved the purchase over $10,000 for LLI kits for each elementary campus. With the transition of three K-5 campuses, additional kits are needed as more classrooms have been added due to the numbers. M. The Board approved the AEA for Elementary Schools. This allows some front fencing both at SFA and Richter. N. The Board unanimously approved TASB Policy DNA (Local) and DNB (Local). This moves the district policy to reflect the transition from PDAS to T-TESS and T-PESS. V. Items for Board Information :*( Items for information may become action items.) A.
