Q: What abou t travel and tour nam ents? A: The reality of AAA hockey is that you travel to play the best level of competition available. We schedule travel to keep the number of overnight stays at a minimum thus keeping costs down. A typical travel weekend consists of two games against the same team or two games Saturday and one Sunday morning. Every effort is made to schedule away games to accommodate morning travel on Saturday and Sunday games will generally be completed by noon. There is no driving to three cities in two days to play three games.

The Jr. Gamblers provide the tools and a program to offset costs utilizing individual and corporate sponsorships. Individual players are able to solicit tax deductible sponsorships from companies and individuals to help cover the annual player fees and travel expenses. When combining the sponsorship program with our SCRIP and other fund raising oppor tunities, our families have defrayed significant expense and many have covered 100% of their player fees.

Q: What abou t the time commitm ent for practices? A: Teams using the weekend practice model will generally have full days on Saturday and Sunday with on-ice, off-ice, classroom and team building activities. Optional skills sessions are offered twice a week for these teams player development. Weekday practice model teams will have the standard two nights a week practice with one mini-camp weekend per month. Optional skill sessions provide twice a month.

Q: Aren’t the Jr Gam blers intense?D o t h e k i d s have fu n? A: Yes, we do have higher level of expectation of our kids both on and off the ice. Our Coaching Staffs work to bring out the best in kids including a strong work ethic and a respect for their team – life long lessons. These expectations are far more impor tant than winning hockey games. Our kids work hard but they play hard too! Team-building activities, fun in the pool, attending professional hockey games when traveling and group dinners are all ways our kids have fun and form lasting friendships. Q: Isn’t playing for the Gam blers really expensive? A: Our annual player fees are higher than local associations but you get what you pay for. - More skill instruction = faster development of your player. - Local association dues commonly provide 1/ 3 of the practice time, and most if not all of that time is half ice. Our weekend practice model teams will have two high intense practice weekends, a tournament/game weekend and an off weekend per month. Our weekday practice model teams will schedule one home weekend of games, one away weekend of games, one mini-camp practice weekend and one off weekend per month. - Not only do we play the top teams in North America, we also compete in some of the best tournaments including the CCM World Invite in Chicago and the Bauer MoTown Classic in Detroit.

Included in player fees: practice and home game ice, tournament fees, off ice development, on ice skills sessions, game and practice jerseys, game socks, team issued apparel, select Bauer and CCM equipment discount program, 20 Motorsport raffle tickets, coaching stipend, and team level specific expenses.

Fr equ en tly As ked Qu es tion s Q: Wh at is TIER 1 AAA Hockey an d h ow d oes it differ from m y local association? A: TIER 1 AAA Hockey is a classification of hockey that surpasses the A level of competition found typically at the local youth hockey level. Strong, dedicated, elite level players from multiple communities come together to compete at a high level against other AAA teams. Levels of play are determined by a standardized system based on player birth years. (Example: 1999 AAA team will consist of players born in the year 1999) Q: How do tryouts for the Jr. Gamblers work?A: Tryouts are open to any player and usually consist of two or more sessions. We use a panel of evaluators composed of the head coach, qualified independent evaluators assigned by the hockey director and the hockey director himself. Following the last session, players will be notified regarding tryout results and next steps. Q: When are tryou ts for the season and where do I get more info? A: Tryout information for the upcoming hockey season can be found at www.jrgamblers.com beginning in April. Once registration for tryouts opens, players must register online at www.jrgamblers.com for their teams tryout.
