Overview: VICE is the world’s preeminent youth media company and content creation studio. The Role: Within this role you will be responsible for producing a high volume of trade stories in key news, business, marketing and advertising titles, as well as maintaining relationships with leading industry reporters. The Senior Communications Manager is responsible for performing multiple duties related to the promotion of VICE UK, spanning its network of digital channels; i-D and VICE Fashion Group; media business and brand partnerships. This will include working closely with the SVP Communications EMEA and other UK senior management, co-ordinating on strategy, positioning, messaging and media assets. Responsibilities:
Secure trade stories publicising VICE’s content, business development, strategic partnerships and overall expansion.
Identify appropriate third-party commentary topics and industry trends in order to proactively reach out to journalists to secure interview opportunities and media coverage.
Place trade stories around VICE’s client work through its in-house agency, Virtue Worldwide.
Develop and maintain relationships with key reporters and editors.
Oversee communications materials, including press releases, media pitches, brand announcements, message sheets and company presentations.
Coordinate campaigns between the communications department and other internal teams.
Work closely with key brand partners.
Organise editorial calendar system, including identifying appropriate opportunities and managing deadlines.
Oversee awards submissions.
Manage relationships with industry conferences and organisations, identifying and securing relevant speaking opportunities for VICE executives and spokespeople.
Oversee internal communications initatives for the UK office.
Manage junior members of the communications team and provide additional supervision as needed to the existing team.
Staff VICE events when required.
Experienced / Education Required:
Bachelor degree is preferred, but not essential, ideally in Communications or Journalism. 5-7 years of relevant experience dealing with leading news, media and trade outlets, preferably in a digital media/entertainment or other similar work environment. Extensive media relationships, with established contacts in news, media, business and advertising trade press. Proven track-record of working on high-level projects to deliver timely and impactful communications plans, publicity and assets. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. A passion for and understanding of what’s going on in the world spanning culture, media, news and entertainment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work quickly and effectively, often managing several projects under deadline. You will have an incredible eye for detail and be a strategic, lateral thinker. Knowledge of the VICE brand is essential. Experience with Mac computer programs.
