February 24, 2016 CAPITAL AREA RAILHAWKS ACADEMY WELCOMES JOHN KERR TO STAFF Current Duke University Men’s Soccer Coach named Assistant Coach of Capital Area RailHawks - CASL U12 South Program and Academy Staff Coach Raleigh, NC –John Bradford, Capital Area RailHawks Academy Director, is excited to welcome current Duke University Men’s Soccer Head Coach, John Kerr, to the Academy staff. Kerr will serve as the assistant coach of the Capital Area RailHawks Academy – CASL U12 South Program and as an Academy Staff Coach. With his addition to the staff, all three Triangle area ACC schools are represented on the Academy staff: UNC Chapel Hill (Carolos Somoano – Men’s Head Coach), NC State University (Kelly Findley – Men’s Head Coach; Dave Costa – Men’s Associate Head Coach), and now Duke University. “I am very excited to be joining the Academy Staff,” said Kerr. “They have always produced excellent players and teams, and I look forward to assisting in their player development program.” For the past 8 years, Kerr has served as the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils Men’s soccer team. He has coached the team to four NCAA Tournaments, advancing as far as the round of 16 in 2009. He has molded players into a NSCAA All-Americans, Hermann Trophy winners, All-ACC selections, ACC Player’s of the Year, and many more accolades. Prior to returning to his alma mater (Duke ’87), Kerr spent nine seasons as the head coach at Harvard University and as the coaching director of the F.C. Greater Boston Soccer Club (20022007). He is a USSF A licensed coach with experience at the youth, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. “I am extremely excited to welcome Coach Kerr to the Development Academy Staff. We have enjoyed a good relationship with John – both through our players going through the recruiting process at Duke University, as well as John’s focus on youth player development,” said Bradford. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program, and he will be instrumental in growing our South Program and our Academy Program overall.” Kerr brings years of coaching experience to the Academy as well as a standout playing career himself. While at Duke, Kerr captained the Blue Devils to the 1986 NCAA National Championship. That same year, he was named the national player of the year. He went on to play for the U.S. Men’s National Team (1984-1995). Kerr was also the first American to play in the English Premier League. His career took him to England, Ireland, France as well as stints with Major League Soccer (MLS). Kerr and his wife, Tracy, have three children.
