MONTHLY NEWS & EVENTS AT NEW COMMUNITY CHURCH

Laying the Foundation

Ray Mehringer // Minister to Children & Families I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of New Community Church. Of course, I’m a little biased when it comes to the importance of Family Ministry. My belief is that children and families tend to be easily overlooked due to the busyness of life. This is not new as it was so even during the time of Christ (Mark 10:13,14). In light of that, here are three things that we need to consider:

1. Family Ministry can dramatically impact the health and growth of

New Community Church if it is invested in properly. A healthy family ministry is developed by focusing on a few fundamentals that are often neglected. Simple things like investing in leadership development, knowing and praying for those who are serving, and asking yourself in what way can I be involved using my gifts within the ministry. 2. Consider the role parents play as Family Ministry serves the most spiritually influential group in the church. Scripture is clear (Deuteronomy 6, Psalm 78) that parents are the primary investors in the lives of the most spiritually receptive group in the church. Want to be involved with discipleship that will impact the overall health of the church for long term? Start with parents. It’s a God-designed, ready to develop plan just waiting to happen! 3. Family Ministry can be challenging and needs your support and encouragement. Oftentimes there are few events that engage the entire family as a family, or that empowers and equips parents for their task as the primary Biblical teachers of their family. How can congregations nurture the faith of families and equip them to learn and share their Christian faith? By an intentional and relentless commitment in all that we do to model and train up the next generation in "... the grace of God that trains us renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works” (Titus 2:11-14).

Book of the Month Big Truths for Young Hearts

Jerry Marshall PASTOR-TEACHER Jeremiah Kirberg PASTOR OF ADMINISTRATION

Bruce A. Ware

With Big Truths for Young Hearts, Bruce Ware, a theology professor, encourages and enables parents of children 6-14 years of age to teach through the whole of systematic theology at a level their children can understand. Parents can teach their children the great truths of the faith and shape their worldviews early, based on these truths. The book covers ten topics of systematic theology, devoting several brief chapters to each subject, making it possible for parents to read one chapter per day with their children. With this non-intimidating format, parents will be emboldened to be their children's primary faith trainers-and perhaps learn a few things themselves along the way.
