EGG-CITEMENT AT ND! ANGRY BIRDS LA to attend the VIP opening

This is a picture Italy. I climbed Mount Vesuvius, which is the volcano that buried Pompeii in AD 79! I saw the ruins and some dead bodies that were cast in the volcano's ash. That was creepy! I also went to see the Colosseum in Rome — where gladiators used to fight to the death! Matthew Taylor 10  l Sounds like you had a spooky adventure, Matthew. Eek!

I love animals so much that I collect your posters and put them on my bedroom wall! When I grow up, I would like to work for WWF or another wild animal charity because I want to help save these stunning animals. Alanna Shrubb, 10 l It's brilliant to see all those posters on your wall, Alanna! We love the work animal charities do, too.

Shark surprise! Hannah and her sister had close encounters...

DINO TERRITORY!

... with lots of dinosaurs!

I attended the opening evening of Marwell Zoo’s Rise of the Dinosaurs exhibition. I was given a tour of the zoo and spotted many different dinosaurs! My favourite was the T. rex (above right) — it was massive and quite terrifying. I then talked to the zoo's Paul Simmons, who told me that he wants visitors to learn more about natural history and the importance of extinction. It was grrr-eat! You must go and visit! Hannah Rumson, 15 l Great report, thanks Hannah. Hope that dino didn't bite you!

The host for the event was BBC Radio 2 DJ, Sara Cox!

Holly and her brother Ellis ha d heaps of fun!

How do whales and dolphins sleep? Oliver Williams, 7 Although whales and dolphins are mammals like us, because they live under the sea they are conscious breathers. This means that they have to actively decide when to breathe — and they can't do this if they're unconscious! So, instead of falling fast asleep like we do, whales and dolphins let one half of their brain sleep at a time. That way, they're never completely unconscious but they still get all the rest they need!

question This month, we ask NG KiDS readers…

What’s your favourite sea creature and why?

Giovanni, 9

Mine is definitely the immortal jellyfish because it never dies!

44 National Geographic Kids

Anya, 8

My favourite creature is the octopus. It's really inky!

Which of these shark species does NOT fit into this grid?

Q

Alex, 12

I love turtles and dolphins because they glide peacefully through the water.

Charlie, 7

Seals are my favourite sea creatures because of the noise they make!

Jai, 8

My favourite sea creature is the blue whale as it’s the world's largest animal!

Have your say here… If you’ve got something to shout about, head to page 56 and let us know!

My shout out is for the dolphins in captivity across the world. The loveable dolphins are forced to do different tricks for the spectators in noisy shows. They are probably being fed well but they miss their families like we would if we were kept with strangers. Even a giant pool is a prison for these adorable, intelligent and social dolphins. Let them be free in the wild! Prithu Menon, 9

l Top shout, Prithu. Head to page 16 to see where you can spot dolphins in the wild here in the UK and Ireland!
