Juniors The Junior Development sub-committee consists of Tracey Keller, Allan Preston, Karen Fletcher-Grieve, Virginia Dodson and John Newton. The focus of our November meeting was both short and long term strategies to support and promote our youth, and the promotion of the Arabian horse as a suitable youth horse. Actions arising are:
Australian National Arabian Championships o Continued support of youth classes at Aussies. Classes and scheduling has been improved since the draft Aussies schedule was released. o Inviting schools and community youth groups to attend the Aussies to see our youth participating.
Endurance Juniors Award o To be awarded to the most successful junior riding competing in AERA competitions with a horse registered with the AHSA. This will comprise a one horse/one rider combination being awarded $500 and a 12 month membership to the AHSA.
Interschools o The AHSA will offer sponsorship in the form of Arabian Horse in Australia books and Arabian Horse News subscriptions to all state and national interschool competitions. o Investigating the viability and promotion of AHSA registered horses being offered to interschool competition pools
Judges o Providing more support to young people who may be considering becoming AHSA judges through mentoring arrangements and skill/confidence building activities that can be completed local to the individual. This would see young people better prepared for judges examinations and the responsibilities of judging.
Promotion o Expanding the amount of content dedicated to youth in the Arabian Horse News. o Adding a ‘Youth Photo of the Month’ to the AHSA’s Facebook page.
