Sometimes you just need a hug. Wrap yourself up in easy-to-sew directions, helpful hints and great techniques that show off our favorite features of the Horizon Memory Craft 9400 QCP. At the same time, you’ll be able to break into your fabric stash and use up some of those fat quarters you’ve been saving! Janome Supplies Required: • Horizon Memory Craft 9400 QCP • ¼” Seam foot O • AcuFeed Flex foot AD • Quilting Bar • Blue Tip needle

Important Numbers: Each finished block will be 13’’ There will be a total 30 finished blocks All seams are sewn with a ¼” seam allowance Cutting Directions: 1. From each center “X” fabric, cut strips 3.5’’ X width of fabric. From these, sub cut: • Thirty 3.5” X 9.5” strips (This will be the long center color section of your block) • For each center cut, cut two 3.5” blocks of coordinating fabrics. When complete, you will have sixty 3.5” blocks.

Fabric and Notions Required:

2. From each background fabric, cut 2 strips 3.5’’ by width of fabric. From these sub cut them into one hundred and twenty (120) 3.5” blocks.

• Background fabric: Miriam used 17 different text fabrics and neutrals with natural color backgrounds

3. From remaining background fabric, cut 7.5’’ squares. You will need 2 squares for every block, equaling 60 squares.

• Center “X” fabrics:

4. Cut all the squares at a 45 degree angle from one corner to the opposite corner, creating large ½ square triangles.

> 6 green > 5 yellow > 8 orange > 7 coral > 4 pinks

Time to Piece: 1. Thread machine and wind bobbin with coordinating sewing thread.

• 4 yds. coordinating fabric for backing

2. Insert new Blue Tip Needle.

• 68” X 72” batting

3. Attach ¼” Seam foot O.

• 1 yd. coordinating fabric for bias binding

4. Select a 3.5” X 9.5” “X” fabric, along with coordinating 3.5” blocks.

• Coordinating sewing thread

Just Hugs Quilt 5. Sew two background 3.5’’ blocks to each side of a 3.5” block “X” fabric (background fabric, colored fabric, and background fabric).

13. Trim dog ears/extra fabric. 14. Center and sew triangles to the remaining two sides of your block.

6. Sew a second set. Press seams to the center. 7. Repeat this step for all your background and “X” fabrics. You will need two sets for every block. These sub sections should finish to measure 3.5’’x 9.5’’. 8. Sew a 3.5’’X 9.5” sub section to a matching 3.5’’x 9.5’’ center “X” fabric.

9. Sew the matching sub section to the other side of the center color section. Press to the center. 10. At this point your block will look similar to a 9 patch. You are almost finished with your block.

15. Square up the block to 13.5’’.

16. Repeat steps 5 - 15 to complete the remaining 29 blocks. Laying it Out: 1. Place the blocks in a 5 X 6 grid, keeping colors together or placing them in a random pattern.

Center the long edge of a triangle on one side of your block and sew it in place.

12. Sew another triangle to the opposite side of the block using the same centering method. Press towards the center.

Just Hugs Quilt 2. Taking it one row at a time, sew five of the blocks together.

6. Attach Quilting Bar and set it at ½” from needle.

3. When all six rows are done, sew the rows together.

8. Use remaining fabric to create bias binding and attach to edge of the quilt.

4. Layer the quilt top on top of batting and quilt back. Pin together. 5. Attach your AcuFeed Flex foot AD.

7. Quilt the layers together.
