Just Hugs Zipper Pouch 1. Wind bobbin and thread machine with all-purpose sewing thread. 2. Attach ¼” Seam foot O.

9. Sew another random triangle to the opposite side of the block using the same centering method, press towards the center.

3. Select Sewing Applications tab (T-shirt). Select Patchwork button. Select preferred straight stitch for piecing. 4. Sew the background fabric strips to both sides of the colored fabric measuring 1.5’’x 3.5’’. This will make a set, background fabric, colored, background fabric. Press to the center.

10. Trim dog ear/extra fabric. Center and sew differing triangles to the remaining 2 sides of your block. 5. Cut across the set, creating two 1.5” strips per set.

6. Sew a 1.5” x 3.5’’set to the coordinating 1.5’’x 3.5’’center color section. 11. Trim block to a 4.5’’ square. Follow the above steps to finish the two remaining “X” blocks. Note: You will have left over ½ cut triangles. The extra cuts provide a larger section to choose from to frame the inner “X” blocks. 7. Sew another 1.5’’x 3.5’’ set to the other side of the center color section. Press to the center. At this point your block will look similar to a 9 patch.

Cutting and Sewing Instructions for Outside Bag Body 1. For the front side of the bag, cut a 2.5” X 13.5” strip of neutral background fabric. 2. Sew the three “X” blocks together side by side in a row.

8. Select a random triangle and center it on one side of your block and sew it in place.

Your piece should now measure 13.5’’x 22.5’’. Quilting Instructions: 1. Spray baste the bag body to the Soft and Stable batting. There will be extra Soft and Stable on all four sides. 2. Draw a line down the center of the bag. 3. Attach the AcuFeed single foot VD. 4. In Quilt Mode, select stitch #4 or 5. This is the Janome hand look stitch. 5. E xchange the bobbin case for the Blue Dot bobbin case. 6. Insert Red Tip needle. 7. Wind bobbin with metallic thread and thread upper machine with monofilament thread. Tip: Do a practice test of the hand look stich to make sure you like the length of the stitch. Remember to pull the bobbin thread up. Some metallic threads are trickier than others. If the metallic thread is not pulling to the top of the fabric, try “floating” the thread in the bobbin case. This means that you bypass the bobbin tension.

5. Again, place the pouch exterior right side up, moving the opposite size of the zipper into place, facing down. 6. Pull the zipper to the middle of the bag. Place second piece of lining, right sides down. Pin all three layers and sew together. 7. Turn fabric so that the exterior of the pouch is right sides together and linings are right sides together, the zipper should be in the middle half way open. 8. Pin the perimeter of the bag. Using a ½ seam allowance sew around the outside of the bag. Make sure to leave a 5’’ opening on one side of the lining to turn. Boxing Corners 1. Pinch a bottom corner of your pouch to create a triangle, making sure to line up the bottom seam to a side seam. 2. Line up your ruler perpendicular to the side seam. Draw a line 1.25’’ from the tip of the corner. 3. Sew along the drawn line backstitching at the beginning and end. Trim a ¼ from the sewn line. 4. Repeat these steps for the opposite remaining corner. 5. Press and turn.

8. Sew your first row along the drawn line, starting and stopping off the fabric.

6. Sew remaining lining opening shut.

9. Using the edge of your foot as a guide, sew along the previously sewn line.

Now you know how to create a hug, so have fun and create a set!

10. Sew to the edge of the fabric and repeat on both sides of the center line until the entire piece is quilted. Putting it All Together 1. Place exterior of pouch right side up. Place zipper, face down, with the tab on the left hand side. 2. Place the lining, right side down, on top of the zipper. 3. Pin the layers together and sew together, continuing to use your VD foot. 4. Turn fabrics, wrong sides together, so you will see the pretty side of the fabric.
