Saturday, January 13th vs. Kamloops Blazers FRANCHISE RECORD: With an assist last night against the Blazers, Tyler Soy set the new franchise record for most career helpers. Soy has recorded 152 assists over his 296-game WHL career, spent entirely with Victoria. The previous record was held by former Royal and Chilliwack Bruin Brandon Magee who earned 151 assists in 318 contests. STARTING STRONG: Following the Royals’ win last night, the club improved their record to 15-7-1-0 when they open the game’s scoring. The club now also boasts a mark of 13-2-1-0 when they hold the lead after 20 minutes of play. Dante Hannoun currently leads the team in opening goals with three this season. FRESH FACES: A pair of skaters made their Royals’ debut last night. Tanner Kaspick, who was acquired from the Brandon Wheat Kings at the WHL Trade Deadline on Wednesday, scored a goal and an assist in his first game with Victoria. Lane Zablocki was also acquired on Wednesday, and joined the team from the Lethbridge Hurricanes. STREAKING SKATERS: The Royals had four players extend their point streaks last night. Tyler Soy earned an assist and now has 20 points (8g-12a) in his past 13 contests. Meanwhile, Matthew Phillips (2g6a) and Chaz Reddekopp (2g-4a) each have points in their past four games. Jared Freadrich rounds out the group with four points (2g-2a) in his last three contests. MULTI-GOAL MADNESS: With two goals from Dante Hannoun yesterday, the Royals have now earned a 16-2-1-0 record when a player registers a multi-goal game. So far this season, Hannoun has three games where he has scored two or more goals, while Matthew Phillips leads the club with seven multi-goal contests. ACTIVATING THE BLUELINE: Tonight’s game will see two of the highest goal scoring defencemen in the WHL in Victoria’s Jared Freadrich and Kamloops’ Joe Gatenby. Freadrich’s 10 goals are the fifth most of any blueliner in the Western Conference, and the eighth highest in the league. Gatenby has nine tallies this season, which is the sixth best of a Western Conference defenceman and ranks tenth in the WHL. ALUMNI REPORT: Former Royals’ defenceman Marsel Ibragimov is currently playing with the Zvesda Chekhov hockey club of the Supreme Hockey League (VHL). The product of Kazan, Russia has played 31 games in the VHL and has recorded 10 assists. Ibragimov made his pro debut earlier this season when he played a game for CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Over the course of 2014-17, Ibragimov played 183 games for Victoria and tallied 21 points (3g-18a).
