Kappa House and BBQ for Books

A Word from the President Dear Kappa Sisters, It’s hard to believe that this Kappa year is coming to an end! It has been an honor to serve as President alongside the amazing executive team-Shelby Crawford, Elizabeth Sparks, Julie Anderson, Laura Barclay and the remarkable Committee Chairs! Their dedication and leadership made our year run smoothly. In February, Laura High hosted the Valentine Tea at her beautiful home, where we got to celebrate our adorable legacies. Thank you to Elizabeth Sparks for planning this beautiful event. Who would have guessed spring time weather in February for this? Design Inspirations, as always, was sold out, and the Preview Party was a huge success! Thank you to our Kappa chairs, Anne Wright and Nicole Shelton for working with the Pi Phi’s in organizing this annual fundraiser. I’d like to thank our nominating committee:Lindy Eubank, Christy Peveto, Summer Riney and Paige Pate for their time in slating exceptional officers to take us forward starting in May. We will vote on the slate on May 10th at our annual Recruitment meeting. Our association will host a dinner honoring Epsilon Alpha seniors after the Cutting of the Ivy ceremony Tuesday, April 25th at Bravo on Hulen. Please join us “dutch treat,” to congratulate and welcome these ladies as alums. We also invite you to attend our Recruitment meeting May 10th, 6:30pm at the home of Becca Stupfel’s, 6158 Indian Creek Drive. Kristen Carmichael and Shannon Berndt will explain the recruitment process, and we will vote on the proposed slate of officers.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Kappa President this year. I have learned so much, but the one thing I have come away with is that I LOVE KAPPA even more now than I did a year ago! I didn’t think this was possible. If I could give alums any advice, I’d say-serve in any big or small capacity in Kappa to make it greater. You might surprise yourself in how much it gives back to you. Loyally,

Lindsay Jones

Shelby Crawford (previously elected)

The TCU Campus is continuing to finish our new gorgeous Kappa house. We have been so blessed to have Vivienne Mays and Lauri Lawrence working on the fundraising to make our KKG house the most beautiful on the campus. I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to see the finished product!

As many of you may know, TCU is building an amazing new Kappa house in the Greek Village. The Chapter women are very excited for the new project and there is a long waitlist for moving into the house in the Fall. Epsilon Alpha is so grateful for the House Board and their involvement in designing and furnishing the new house. A new philanthropy event will hopefully become a staple on the TCU campus this Spring- BBQ for Books to benefit Reading is Fundamental. The Chapter has started planning for Recruitment in the Fall, and is excited for all the new and exciting changes this year! Thank you for your ongoing support!

Construction of our new Kappa house at TCU is on schedule

Mandy Johnston, Meghan Sewell, Martha Smith and Marty DeBusk

Mary Lynn Garrett, Mary Clay Gupton, Dana Porter and Carolyn Barbell

Construction of our new Kappa house at TCU is on schedule and expected to be complete in plenty of time for movein, work week, and recruitment. Joe Minton and his team have created a fabulous palette for the chapter room on the ground floor and the large group studies upstairs. Fabrics and furnishings have been ordered and many existing pieces are being repurposed. It is going to be beautiful! The response to the Keys To Our Future campaign continues to be overwhelmingly positive. We hope that you as a loyal Kappa will consider a gift to this exciting project and encourage your pledge sisters and Kappa friends to do the same. Several pledge classes have organized their giving to secure naming rights to a room. There are several naming opportunities still available. What a tremendous opportunity to reach out to your roommates and pledge sisters. Know that your contribution will serve as a lasting legacy and help ensure the future of our Epsilon Alpha chapter.

Design Inspirations, in its twenty-fourth year, kicked off with a Preview Party on March 1st. The 350 attendees perused 65 beautifully decorated tables designed by a group of incredibly talented decorators, non-profits, businesses, and individuals. Andrew Sullivan and his acoustic guitar set the scene for a fun night including a Mexican buffet and a raffle of many local favorites. The following day, March 2nd, Design Inspirations introduced this year’s speaker, Jane Scott Hodges of Leontine Linens, to over 500 attendees at the luncheon. Known for returning couture linens to everyday use, Jane Scott captivated the audience with personal stories, photos of her own dinner parties and home, and much more. Her book, Linens: For Every Room and Occasion, sold out quickly. A seated lunch at the artfully decorated tables followed. Guests left excited to go home, open their linen closets, and start using their linens more often! The Design Inspirations committee, led by Kappa co-chairs Nicole Shelton and Anne Wright, is grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s event a success. Because of the generous support of attendees, decorators, and volunteers, Design Inspirations is able to benefit to two impactful non-profits in town, Gill Children’s Services and Child Study Center, on behalf of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi.
