Katrina Wootton Katrina Wootton, Holy Spirit School Nominated by Paul Lucas Katrina Wootton is an outstanding educator. She displays a passion and commitment to the use of innovative and creative ways to engage both students and other teachers in the learning process. Katrina’s energy and enthusiasm makes her an exceptional communicator and teacher. Katrina makes a major contribution to school improvement through her pivotal role in curriculum renewal and reform, leading staff in critical evaluation of existing practices and implementing evidence-based changes to curriculum, teaching and assessment. By setting high expectations, challenging perceptions, and supporting and mentoring colleagues in appropriate methodogies and strategies. Katrina has been pivotal in building a strong, inclusive school culture where all students can success. She has initiated a range of innovative programs and practices that provide dynamic learning experiences. Katrina has recently been instrumental in devising and organising a Professional Development program for teachers in the Australian curriculum subject of History. Through her role as a Primary Connections facilitator, Katrina has made the experience of science accessible and engaging for students at Holy Spirit School. She has devised innovative programs and organised visits by guest scientists and has arranged for the provision of science kits. Katrina encourages students to use everyday items to explore concepts and develop inquiry skills. Recently Katrina was invited by the Queensland Studies Authority to assist in the writing of a science unit for Prep students. Through the sharing of her own teaching expertise, Katrina supports other teachers and gives them confidence in making science challenging but fun. Katrina has assisted in establishing a vibrant and active playgroup that meets twice weekly at Holy Spirit School. She ensures that child-centred, play-based learning experiences are provided at playgroup. Katrina endeavours to encourage the children in creativity and learning. She has organised a Pre-Prep/Kindergarten Committee to support the establishment of Kindergarten at the school. Katrina believes that this will assist the children towards a smoother transition to Prep. Katrina works generously and effectively with parents, colleagues, other professionals, and community and government services to support the needs of all students.
