Deuteronomy 5:22-33
24-28 When the leaders and representatives of the people came to Moses, they requested that he serve as their mediator. Rereading these verses, how would you describe their perception of God? Reflection: How is the fear of the Lord a positive influence on you? How might it be abused?
“He Himself stresses most strongly, namely, that He is to be our God, so that we set up no confidence in works but trust in His mercy alone. Yet in no matter does He seem to dissemble more than in this godlessness, since He permits the godless to flourish, to rule with impunity, and to mislead very many. Thus it appears that in God there is neither fire nor zeal but cold and sluggishness, as also many psalms complain that He sleeps and beg Him to wake up (Ps. 44:24).” (Luther’s Works, Vol. 9, on Deuteronomy 4:24)
29-31 By recalling these words of God, what does Moses want us to know?

Therefore Paul says also in 1 Tim. 1:9, that “the Law is not set up for the righteous,” for the reason that the fulfilling of the Law is love from a good heart and from faith that is not feigned (1 Tim. 1:5), which uses law lawfully when it has no laws and has all laws laws—no laws, becausee none bind unless they serve faith and love; all, because all bind when they serve faith and love. 14-16 Chapter 4:3-4 4 mentioned what God died at Peor. Here, we look back to Exodus 17 and Massah. Luther describes two ways that we put God to the test in a sinful way. Pick which one applies to the scene at Massah. Think ink of an experience in your own life that tempted you to test God. 1. When in need, you have the means to do something about it, but look to God to fill the need another way. 2. When in need, you have the Word of God God’s promises, but you prescribe to God how he should care for you. 20-25 How would you describe the learning and attitude God desired for his people?
