Rockets vs. Tips Wednesday December 30, 2015 Game Time - 7:05 pm Tonight’s Preview: The Kelowna Rockets take a 9 game home ice winning streak into tonight’s game against the visiting Everett Silvertips. It is the first of four meetings between the two teams this season. The Rockets are in Everett Friday before closing out the seasonal series when the Tips make a th th return visit on January 8 and the Rockets return to Everett on February 24 . Last season the Rockets were 3-0-1-0 in the four games, winning both times at home with 5-3 and 9-3 wins. The Rockets won in overtime in Everett (5-4 OTW) and also lost in the extra session (3-2 OTL). The Rockets are coming off a 3-2 win Monday night against the visiting Kamloops Blazers. Kole Lind scored three times in the win while Michael Herringer made 37 saves. The Rockets have won 22 of their last 29 games overall (22-6-0-1) and are 13-2-0-0 on home ice and 14-7-1-0 on the road. Overall; the Rockets have points in 19 of 23 games (18-4-1-0). Overall, the team has won 8 of its last 11 games. Home Ice Success: The Rockets are riding a nine game home ice winning streak. The team’s last loss at th Prospera Place was October 30 against the Prince George Cougars (2-1 L). In seven of those nine games, the team has scored four or more goals. EVERETT SILVERTIPS (19-12-0-2) at KELOWNA ROCKETS (27-9-1-0) Wednesday, December 30, 2015 | Prospera Place | RADIO: Fox Sports 1380 AM | TIPS Mobile TONIGHT’S MATCHUP The first matchup of the season between the Silvertips and Kelowna Rockets gets underway tonight at Prospera Place, featuring the third ranked offense and the top rated defense in the WHL. The Silvertips are 18-22-1-4 lifetime against the Rockets and last met the Rockets on Mar. 3, 2015 at XFINITY Arena, a 3-2 overtime win. Everett won last year’s U.S. Division title, and Kelowna is the defending WHL champion, in addition to reaching the Memorial Cup Final last year. HEAD-TO-HEAD: ROCKET MEN Tonight begins a home-and-home series between the Silvertips and Rockets, matching up the third ranked offense in the WHL (3.7 goals per game/Kelowna) against the top ranked defense (2.2 goals against/Everett). The Silvertips went 1-2-1 last year in four games against the Rockets and were led in scoring by Nikita Scherbak’s seven points in four games against Kelowna. Noah Juulsen, Kevin Davis, Patrick Bajkov and Cole MacDonald headline the returning players in scoring with three points each. The Silvertips ended a seven-day layoff and had their four-game road winning streak come to an end, outshooting Vancouver 34-31. The win lifted the Silvertips into sole possession of first place in the U.S. Division after Tri-Cities beat Seattle, 3-2 in overtime at Kent. Stadnyk’s multi point game was also connected to Dawson Leedahl’s go-ahead goal, midway through the second period. Carter Hart turned in an 18 save effort and leads the WHL with 19 wins. All four of the Silvertips’ division titles have been achieved with Constantine as head coach, most recently last season which was Everett’s first since 2006-07. He was the recipient of the Dunc McCallum Trophy (WHL Coach of the Year) in 2003-04, when the Silvertips broke nearly every WHL expansion record and became the first expansion team in WHL history to win a division title. Constantine has coached in the NHL over the course of seven seasons with San Jose, Pittsburgh and New Jersey, helping guide all three clubs to an appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
