KNOW before you GO Thank you for signing up to volunteer at Oregon Food Bank! Your group will be repacking food that gets sent out to families in need across our statewide network. This is important work and a huge help to our community. Here are some guidelines for you to know before your visit to make sure everyone stays safe and has a great experience. Please make sure all volunteers and chaperones receive this information in advance.
Safety
Minimum age is 6 years old. All volunteers MUST wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Open-toed/ heeled, and high heeled shoes are not allowed. No food, beverage, gum or candy may be consumed in the volunteer work areas. Volunteers may not attend if they feel sick or have a cough, runny nose, flu-like symptoms, open wounds, or food borne illnesses Group leaders must have emergency contact information for all volunteers in the group. Temperatures in this space can reach 50 degrees. Dressing in layers is recommended! Tasks in the Perishable Repack Room involve standing, squatting, lifting and pulling. Please let us know in advance if you have any special needs.
Supervision
Parents & Chaperones must address any unsafe or inappropriate behavior immediately. Group leaders should send you the OFB Chaperone Guidelines for you to review. If your group leader asks you to serve as a Chaperone, it’s important you attend, as your group will be turned away if there are not enough chaperones. At any time, the Volunteer Coordinator has the discretion to stop a shift if they feel conditions are unsafe. Please bring a signed Youth Release form for all first-time volunteers under age 18.
