6v6 Match Analysis The focus of the coaching education session is to look at a match while discussing systems-‐of-‐play and the functions of the individual players. Systems-‐of-‐Play System-‐of-‐Play – the framework of a team (formation). See examples below. Keep things simple and allow for freedom of movement; getting players to “stay in position” can hinder their development; start helping them with proper “positioning.” Utilizing two lines of players and referring to them as the “front line” and “back line” rather than “attackers” and “defenders” may help them understand that they are all involved in attacking and all involved in defending Attacking Principles Penetration Support Mobility Length & Width Components of Soccer Technical – ability to manipulate ball Tactical – decisions Physical – fundamental movements (i.e. agility) Psycho-‐social – mental component in the team setting (i.e. self-‐confidence) Discussion Questions What is the team formation? Positioning vs. Positions? Is the team trying to play thoughtful soccer or is it safety-‐first/direct soccer? How does “development vs. winning” affect the choice of system, style and/or player positions?
