8v8 Match Analysis The focus of the coaching education session is to look at a match while discussing systems-‐of-‐play and the functions of the individual players. Most of the time will be spent looking at the attacking side of the game. Systems-‐of-‐Play System-‐of-‐Play – the framework of a team (formation). See examples below. Player abilities and tendencies are considered in determining which system should be used. The abilities (technical, tactical, physical, mental) and tendencies of players will determine how he/she fulfills the positional responsibilities (function) within the system. The functional expectations of the coach should match the abilities of the players. Attacking Principles Penetration Support Mobility Length & Width Components of Soccer Technical – ability to manipulate ball Tactical – decisions Physical – fundamental movements (i.e. agility) Psycho-‐social – mental component in the team setting (i.e. self-‐confidence) Discussion Questions What is the team formation? What are the individual player strengths/tendencies? What is the function of each player within the system? How does the team look to attack? How does “development vs. winning” affect the choice of system and player positions?
