An Inside Look at Lehman Coac h Contin ues To Coach Continues Build Le gac y On Br onx Campus acy Bronx Leg The Lehman College women's basketball team has seen some specatular moments over the past eight years. The Lightning have recorded 107 wins over the past seven years, and have advanced to the ECAC post-season tournament on three occasions to just name a few. With the highlights have come a few down seasons for the Lightning, two in which they failed to post double digit wins on the season. Throughout the good and bad seasons, a reliable face has been that of eighth year head coach Eric Harrison. Coach Eric Harrison has exemplified a true commitment to Lehman College athletics. For eight seasons, the Queens, New York native has dedicated himself to making Lehman a contender each and every season at the helm. During coach Harrison's tenure, the Lightning have reached the conference semi-finals six times, and advanced to the championship game during the 2001-02 season. The 2000-01 season saw Lehman lead the nation in points scored (97.4ppg), while his creative offense has produced five CUNY conference Rookie of the Years, and two conference Most Valuable Players. Harrison has also been honored twice as the CUNY conference Coach of the Year and another two times as the Hudson Valley Coach of the Year. "The challenges of coaching at Lehman College has really helped in the development of my career," said Harrison. "The great people that I have come in contact with, and an environment where the student athletes really support what you are trying to create, have enabled us to be a force in the CUNY conference." With a relatively young team, Lehman has struggled early in the season, getting off to a 2-5 overall start. Coach Harrison is looking forward to a strong second half, and an opportunity to compete for the CUNY conference championship, a title that has eluded Lehman in women's basketball.
"The opportunity to be successful in CUNY is something that we look forward to every year," Harrison added. "The CUNY title has not been won in the history of Lehman basketball and we feel that when we gain some experience this year, that it will bring us one step closer to making history." If you havent seen this year's team, the squad is a very exciting young team to watch. Lehman is led by 2004-05 conference all-stars Maria Loor, and Kristy Faust. The duo are joined by a rising star in freshman Sally Nnamani. Nnamani, a 5'11" forward from Warwick, New York has already been named the CUNY conference Rookie of the Week, and is in line to keep the tradition of talented freshman at Lehman. "We are all very confident with coach Harrison leading the way," said sophomore center Maria Loor. "Coach Harrison and his staff have a great reputation and our team actually looks forward to competing for the conference title." The next game for the Lightning will be next Wednesday, December 28th at the Lehman College Holiday Classic. The Lightning will play at 7pm vs. SUNY Old Westbury.
Lightning head coach Eric Harrison is assisted on the sidelines by former Lehman star and fourth year assistant coach Ivelisse Rosario.
"We are all very confident with coach Harrison leading the way," said sophomore center Maria Loor.
