Developing Effective Approaches to Teaching AQA B A/S ENGLISH LITERATURE This course will enable teachers to refine approaches to course organisation, subject knowledge, assessment and pedagogy by examining a number of issues relating to the two units of the AS course. The focus will be on effective teaching strategies to develop students’ confidence and independent learning skills – in particular looking at how to develop students’ broad knowledge of literary concepts through the teaching of set texts and topics. The key concepts in the assessment objectives – writing, context, interpretation, and language, form & structure will be addressed. Delegates will explore a range of resources including worksheets, sample student responses, and other assessment material.

Outcomes of the course are: • To develop and refine understanding of the requirements of the specification and its assessment, and how to fulfil them • To develop and refine ideas about appropriate subject knowledge and teaching strategies for the specification • To provide sample student responses, teacher worksheets, lesson ideas, etc.
