Announcements: If you know someone who is homebound and would like communion, please contact the church office or one of the Eucharistic Visitors, Nicki (324-4239) or Sheri (286-4644). Please plan on attending the Annual Meeting on January 21st. It is important to have everybody’s opinion and everybody informed as to what will happen in 2018. St. Thomas is struggling right now and needs everyone’s support. Our congregation has rapidly declined since August and pledges are way down. We have lost a total of 13 people which has made a huge impact on the financial situation of St. Thomas. Please pray about a way you could be a solution to this problem. We are also short of volunteers at the Choir Loft. The store is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from one to four. If you are unable to support financially with a pledge, consider volunteering at the store. You would still be helping St. Thomas.
Ladies! We will be meeting on the second Friday of each month at McDonalds for coffee or whatever you would like to have at 8:00 am. Please join us for a time to socialize.
Bloopers
Our youth basketball team is back in action Wednesday at 8 pm in the recreation hall. Come out and watch us kill Christ the King. Quotes From Steven Charleston, a Native American Episcopal Bishop I watch for the people in the corner. The ones who seem left out, who try to share a faltering smile, standing alone in the midst of the holiday gathering. For many people this season is especially difficult. It is a reminder of the loss of a loved one, the anniversary of a private grief. Troubles can seem bigger, depression deeper, separation harder. Help me keep an eye on the corners. Help me watch for the souls on the margins. A gentle word, a time to chat, an offer to listen: these may be the best holiday gifts we can offer.
Happiness is not something we get, but something we have. The same is true for a sense of peace. Happiness and peace are not external to us. They are within us. They are our reactions to what we encounter and experience in the world around us. Sometimes, of course, it is very difficult to feel them, but they are always there, always available to us. Things will not buy us happiness. Control will not give us peace. Take a deep breath. Calm your heart and mind. They are already there waiting within you, a strength in times of trouble, a joy in days of love.
You have the gift. You have had it since you were very young. You have the gift of vision. You can see between the spaces that separate the people around you. You can see how they really feel and what they really want to do. You can see between the
cracks of the world you inhabit. You can catch glimpses of what is to come and why. You can see the movement of the Spirit, shaping life even as you live it. You have the gift, the gift of deep insight and spiritual perception. Honor that gift in yourself and use it to bind up what is broken, to restore what is lost, to heal what needs to be seen.
