Kim Stotsenberg National Instructor

Guest

Kim is an award-winning quilter who is known for her fun and distinctive free hand quilting style. Kim started long arm quilting in 1999, when she purchased her first long arm machine. As a quilter, Kim cherishs seeing the joy that comes over a customers face when they first see their quilt after she has quilted it. Kim started teaching my leaf designs in 2005 and soon followed with her first book “Just Leaf It”. Her work can be seen in Quilter’s Newsletter magazine, The Quilter Magazine, Fabric Trends and other publications. She teaches both locally and at national quilt shows such as MQS. She has developed long arm classes for both beginner and advance quilters to help build their confidence and creativity in doing freehand designs.

Starting with a Swirl Hands On Format

Do you like the look of edge to edge quilting but don’t like following a line? Let Kim show you how to freehand quilt fast, fun & fabulous designs all starting with a swirl. We will start with several different Swirls and add a few simple shapes for fast freehand quilting, then add a few more fun elements to create fabulous designs to cover your quilt tops. We will also explore how to use those shapes to create complimentary borders & sashings.

9:00am-12:45pm Advance HQ Pro Stitcher Lecture Format Scott Flanagan You have learned the basics of the Handi Quilter Pro-Stitcher, now let’s take it up a notch and learn what else it can do. Leslie has owned and managed Country Traditions for 15 years. Previously machine quilting for others, she now teaches several of the shops “long arm technique” classes, passing on her “lessons learned” and “passion” for machine quilting to her students.

Scott Flanagan Creative Center Specialist Country Traditions Scott has been an active quilter since 2003 and has been working at Country Traditions since 2007. After Graduating from Midland Lutheran College Scott took on the role of Creative Center Coordinator, along with teaching all the Pfaff Owners classes and some Quilting classes. Once you have the basics of constructing these feathers we will explore using them in borders, blocks, and setting triangles. Kim will show you how to use stencils, templates and rulers for the foundation to quilting these designs into your quilts. We will explore using 2 different colors of thread for a more whimsical look. This class is for all skill levels.

That Loopy Thing: Hands On Format

Learn how to design quick custom designs for samplers and other quilts that stump your imagination. With the workbook provided follow along as Kim uses loops, swirls and continuous curves to design custom treatments for sampler blocks. We will explore how a different placement of the loops and continuous curves along with other designs such as feathers changes the look of the block. Students will then get to stitch out these designs to make a sample that they can refer back to. Students are encouraged to bring unquilted tops for group discussion on design possibilities. For all skill levels, but geared for beginners to intermediate.
