Serving the Lyme Community for over 100 years
(and Sharks and Penguins and Giant Kangaroos and Alligators...) This week the second grade presented their animal reports to the third grade. Students discussed interesting facts they researched and created a picture to illustrate what their animal looked like in their environment. This activity is part of the science project, seen in last weeks newsletter where students were learning about classifying life forms. This project is also part of the writing and public speaking curriculum.

Displacement: n The weight or volume of a fluid displaced by a object... the volume of the immersed object can then be deduced - the volume of the immersed object will be exactly equal to the volume of the displaced fluid. (snore*)
Reduce Waste, Reduce Cost, Reduce Consumption Many of you may be seeing this Newsletter electronically for the first time, many of you have been receiving it this way for years. For some electronic delivery is easier, because the paper copy never seems survive the trip home in a backpack or your child has reached the age when the only answer you get to the question “What did you do at school?” is “not much” and the likeliness of ANYTHING from school reaching your eyes is scant. The answer is of course, you can receive the Newsletter directly via your email. Others may have felt conflicted: You love the environment and being able to breath and yet you also can’t live without all the fascinating information you get as a result of reading the Lyme School Newsletter. With electronic delivery, you can love both -- Just another way we are trying to make your lives less complicated - (other than when we cancel school on snow days or call your office to have you pick up your sick child.....)
It is at this point when a teacher really begins to sound like every adult in a Peanuts cartoon. Fortunately, there is another way to understand concepts like displacement or volume. These methods encourage getting a real sense of the concept -- getting Families will notice that less paper will be coming involved -- or as in the case of home as well. Got Vaccinated? The school is investigating having a vaccination clinic for Lyme School students if, and when, H1N1 vaccination becomes available to us. In preparation for this we are asking parents to indicate if they would be interested in having their child vaccinated and how many children would be eligible in their family. This is not permission to do so, rather an assessment of need. Parental/Guardian permission will follow for those interested. Please email Jen Woodmansee at:
[email protected] If you are interested please indicate the number of children. If you have an opportunity to receive the vaccine (and you want to be vaccinated) prior to this clinic please do not wait as we are not sure when vaccine will be available to us.
