Book: Landscape Quilts Email me to let me know you have registered and I will send you some photos. Choose one to work with and print out 2 copies—one in color/one in black and white. You will use this photo as inspiration for your quilt. You must use one of these photos—they have been chosen to maximize our class time and to teach you the techniques you need as a foundation for successfully creating your own landscape quilts. Fabric. Choose fabrics that create a realistic feeling to your quilt, so no solid fabrics. 1 yard for Background: Concentrate more on sky than ground--consider time of day, time of year…batiks and hand-dyes are great. Remember that you will need good contrast with the trees and ground cover. You may wish to bring a second fabric to create the ground. Trees. Choose one or more fabrics with the color and texture you are trying to recreate. If your composition will have trees in both background and foreground, the colors will fade as they retreat. Consider using the backside to achieve this look. Get at least a fat quarter of the main fabric. We will add details and shadows with ink and pastels. Foliage, horizon line and ground cover. Choose a variety of fat quarters with the colors and scale you need. More is better when trying to re-create Mother Nature! A fabric with 4 shades/tones/colors is better that a fabric with just one or two.
